CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR those who are in situations of domestic violence.  The 5th commandment: Thou shalt not kill.  “In short, God wants to have everyone defended, delivered, and protected from the wickedness and violence of others, and He has placed this commandment as a wall, fortress, and refuge around our neighbors, so that no one may do them bodily harm or injury.  In the second place, this commandment is violated not only when we do evil, but also when we have the opportunity to do good to our neighbors and to prevent, protect, and save them from suffering bodily harm or injury, but fail to do so.”  (Large Catechism)

December 2 Weekly News

MANY THANKS TO Pastor Jung for leading our worship this morning while Pastor Whitmore & family are in Fort Wayne for the baptism of Pastor’s nephew.

“WHAT CHILD IS THIS,
who laid to rest, on Mary’s lap is sleeping?”  Most of us have sung these words.  As we gaze on this Child sleeping on His mother’s lap, we know that He is the great I AM.  He is God in the flesh.  During our Advent midweek services this year, we will be meditating on the theme:  “I AM: God in the Flesh-Feared, Hated, Adored” as we look in John’s Gospel and hear Jesus claiming the words I AM for Himself.  Join us Wednesday nights at 7:00 as we gaze upon our Savior who comes to us and contemplate who He claims to be.  This Wednesday, the Guild will be serving ham, rolls, salads, and desserts before worship, beginning at 5:45pm.   Please note that there will be no communion on Wednesday evenings during Advent.  Communion will be celebrated December 2, 9, 16, 25, and 31.

REVERSE ADVENT CALENDAR:  Today, the first Sunday in Advent, is the day to put your first gift in your Reverse Advent Calendar grocery bag.  If you did not get a bag last Sunday, but would still like to participate in this activity, you may use any bag or box that you have.  From today until December 23, you can add another gift to your bag/box, using the Reverse Advent Calendar that is on the back of our church’s December calendar as a guide for ideas.  (Extra copies are available in the narthex.)  The grocery bags are due back on Sunday, December 23, and will be delivered to Turning Point Shelter on Monday, December 24.

A SERVICE OF CAROLS AND READINGS will be held for our 4:30pm Christmas Eve worship.  Anyone who would like to join the choir to sing at this special service is invited to participate.  It’s not too late to join!  Practices will held 5:00-6:15pm before the Midweek Advent Worships, December 5, 12, 19.  Call/text Lori Hill (812-350-1474) if you would like to participate.

STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT FOR THIS WEEK:     Heb. 10:14
“For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.”  Our Lord Jesus has provided the one offering for sin.  What we offer to the Lord is not a sacrifice for sin; we cannot buy our way into heaven with our money, works, or effort.  Rather, what we give to the Lord’s work in the Church is a thank offering, a sign of our dependency on God and all He has given us.

“For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”  From Old Testament times right through to today, the Lord has urged us to give to His work in the Church in proportion to how He has blessed us.  He has also called us to sacrificial giving, that is, giving that actually costs us something.  That’s the shape of true Christian generosity.

November 4 Weekly News

ALL SAINTS’ SUNDAY: “With angels, archangels, and with all the company of heaven…”  When we gather around the altar of the Lord in His House, we pray and praise God with “all the company of heaven.”  Those we have lost in the Lord are not truly lost to us – they have simply entered their rest with the Lord.  As we gather to worship our Lord, we gather along with them.  On the Last Day, everything that God has given into the care of our stewardship will fade away – everything except our brothers and sisters in Christ.  Caring for one another in love and grace is our highest calling.
We pause today to remember all those who have gone to their heavenly home, especially during this past year:  Dale Burbrink, Dallas Kreinhagen, Maxine Snyder, Kathryn Taulman, and Herb Stiltz.  Please note the memorial display today in the narthex.

THE CHURCH FOUNDATION will meet after worship TODAY.  Please meet at the front pews.

PIE SUNDAY: Pie sheets are still available in the narthex.  Please pick one up and complete it (you may also color it if you like!) and return it so it can be posted on the windows in the narthex.  A Christian Growth Card is also available in the narthex if you did not get one last Sunday.  These are being given to help each family sit down and consider what gifts God has given to them and what they are doing with those gifts.  These will be put into sealed envelopes to be put in a basket in the church next week, Pie Sunday, November 11.  A pie sign-up sheet is in the narthex – sign up today to bring your favorite pie to share after worship next Sunday as we enjoy a delicious dessert and fellowship with our church family.  (No SS/BC that day)
