The Ladies Aid informs me that there were not enough donations to fill out a whole shipment for the tornado relief, so the Grain Train in going to hold off on the shipment and try to send it down in another week or so. This means that if you are able you can still bring in donations to be added to the shipment. (Please see the earlier post for a list of the things that they are looking for. They are not accepting clothing at this time.)
Also, I would like to commend the Ladies Aid for giving the Orphan Grain Train $500 to help cover the shipping cost. Thank you for you loving generosity!

Acceptable

Heavenly Father,
Because of your great mercy, we who were once not a people, are now Your people, and through Christ we have been made acceptable in Your sight. As we live as your dear children, teach us to long for the pure milk of Your word. Help us fill our ears with what is good for us. Teach us to let go of our pathetic attempts to bargain with You, and to accept your love and forgiveness as the free gift that it is.
Jesus, our dear sacrifice, our living foundation, uphold and care for the church You are building. We are mere beggars before You, yet You pour out Your mercy on us daily. Keep us safe in You dear Jesus. Hold us close when the storms of life rage.

Immanuel Lutheran Church, Joplin, Missouri
The following is a letter from the Missouri District President Rev. Ray Mirly:
By now many of you have some information regarding the devastating tornado that struck Joplin, Missouri, Sunday evening. The reports that I have received indicate that up to 75% of the city of 50,000 has sustained some damage with much of the damage catastrophic. As of 7:00 a.m. Monday, the media was reporting 89 confirmed deaths and it is anticipated that that number will increase as search and rescue efforts continue.
Immanuel Lutheran Church is the only LCMS congregation in Joplin. The Principal, Jeremy Schamber, reports that the school is damaged and at this time is unsafe to enter. It appears that the church did not sustain significant damage. The parsonage received structural damage including the loss of its roof.
The pastor of Immanuel Rev. Gregory Mech, and his wife, are uninjured. Likewise, the principal of the school and the DCE are both safe. Jason Glaskey, DCE, just sent a message via Facebook that all of Immanuel's staff are now safe and accounted for. The homes of three of the Christian Day School teachers were destroyed. The brother of one of the teachers was killed.
Only approved emergency responders are permitted to enter Joplin. We have no information regarding specific needs and ask that all desiring to provide assistance please wait for a list of needs to be published. We will provide a list once that it has been developed. In the meantime, even for those with insurance, there will be immediate need for cash assistance. You can send cash assistance to:

We give thanks and praise to God for the countless lives that were spared. We pray God's comfort and blessings upon all of the families that mourn the death of loved ones. We ask God to bless the ministry to the injured and upon all the recovery efforts. Please keep all the residents of Joplin in your prayers.
Through this disaster in Joplin we are once again reminded how temporary this world is. Thanks be to God that through faith in His Son Jesus Christ, all who believe in Him have His promise of a life that will never end. As the Scriptures teach, "For me to live is Christ and to die is gain."

JUNE CALENDAR AND NEWS ITEMS should be submitted to Becky by TOMORROW.
LADIES AID MEMBERS are reminded of their meeting this Wednesday, beginning with the workday at 9 AM, followed by devotions and the business meeting at 11 AM. Lunch will be served by the hostesses at noon. As always, guests are always welcome!

Refreshments and the awards presentations will be held in the gym immediately following the service.

THE PREGNANCY CARE CENTER will offer its summer session of volunteer training on June 6, 7, 9, 13, 14, and 16 from 6-9 PM each evening at the Memorial Baptist Church in Columbus. This training is for individuals wanting to serve Christ by ministering to others. Information is available in the narthex to those interested in this ministry. Questions may be directed to Jenny Gardner at the PCC at 812-378-4114.

Orphan Grain Train
Orphan Grain Train is currently collecting donations to send to the tornado damaged area in the south. OGT has joined in a cooperative effort of LCMS-Southern District, LCMS-WR-HC and opened a warehouse in Birmingham, AL to receive and distribute goods for those suffering loss.
A load of canned and dry food, water, hygiene needs, quilts, sheets, paper products, kitchen and table ware, small electric appliances, and fans weighing 19,000 lbs was unloaded on Friday May 13 in Birmingham. The next load is planned to be sent down to unload on Friday May 27. The most needed item is food , lots of canned food is asked for.
This load will consist of goods as was the first, and donations are needed. You may drop off at the warehouse or church by Wednesday May 25 so they can be loaded and taken south. No items are taken that are not asked for, due limited space and their needs.

The Voice
So many voices compete for our attention, but there is only One who speaks to us in love.
Our Good Shepherd lays down His life for His sheep, and His voice calls us to trust and follow Him in faith.
Father in Heaven,
Open our ears that we may hear the voice of Your dear Son. Quiet the voices of this world, and the fears and doubts in our own hearts, that we may hear and be encouraged by Your great love for us. Though we were wolves, we have been clothed in the Righteousness of the Lamb of God. We are Your sheep, and we are well cared-for by our Good Shepherd Jesus. Continue to lead and protect us.
