August 5 Weekly News

CHURCH PICNIC:  Everyone is invited to our 3^rd annual church picnic TODAY after worship.  Help will be needed to put up the canopies - head on down to the north side of the school.

BIBLE STUDY:  What are the three different teachings relative to Holy Communion?  Are there some teachings we don't know about?  Why do we observe closed communion?  This should make for some lively discussion at Pastor Brandt's Bible Study, "The Sacraments," which will begin on Thursday, August 16, in the Fellowship Room.  Call Becky in the church office (342-3516) to enroll.

TRINITY LUTHERAN HIGH SCHOOL will be holding a Dedication Ceremony and Open House for the new building expansion TODAY at 4:00 PM in the Bollinger Athletic Complex.  Installation of Trinity's faculty and staff for the 2012-2013 school year will also take place during the ceremony.  All are welcome to help celebrate this new chapter in Trinity's history!

STORAGE SPACE of approximately 20'x20' is going to be needed for the organ being donated by Janeen Blomenberg during its restoration.  If you would have space in a barn, shed, or garage, please contact Pastor Cook. 

LWML MISSION MOMENTS:  154 delegates awarded $120,000 in mission grants at the LWML convention in June.  SEED Program for Lutherwood received $6,585 – Receiving 104 votes, this grant to the SEED program (Spiritual Engagement, Education and Development) will help Lutheran Child and Family Services provide intensive spiritual care and counsel for the children at Lutherwood Psychiatric Residential Treatment Center and School for troubled youth and Trinity House group home.  Opportunities for spiritual growth and engagement improve the quality of life these children, ages 6-18 years, who are recovering from the effects of abuse, neglect and mental illness.   Most of these children have not heard of the love of Jesus.

BRICK ORDERS will be taken anytime from now through Labor Day.  Cost is $100 per brick.  Contact Ernie & Donna Dettmer, Larry & Janice Claycamp, or Lloyd & Jean Meyer.  Bricks will be ordered after Labor Day, with placement sometime in October.

PARENTS OF OUR SCHOOL CHILDREN are reminded that registration for grades 2-8 for this coming school year will be held this Thursday,  August 2, from 9:00-11:00 AM and 6:30-8:00 PM.  Home visits are being made to all kindergartners, first graders, and families new to our school.

LWML MISSION MOMENTS:  154 delegates awarded $120,000 in mission grants at the LWML convention in June.  Concordia Seminary Food Bank and Clothing Co Op, Ft. Wayne received $12,000, and Concordia Seminary Food Bank, St. Louis, MO  received $10,000.   The food bank and the  Food and Clothing Co-op exist to aid students who are studying to become pastors and deaconesses with costs associated with feeding themselves and their families while they are students.

The Food and Clothing Co-op currently supplies 75% to 85% of all families’ food and household needs each month at no cost to the student, relying upon donations from individuals, congregations and organizations. The $12,000 grant will be used to purchase three months of perishable items for the Co-op.   The $10,000 will help finance the operational costs of the Food Bank.

AUGUST CALENDAR AND NEWS ITEMS need to be submitted to Becky by TOMORROW.

LADIES AID MEMBERS are reminded of their workday and meeting this Wednesday, beginning at 9 AM.  Mite boxes will be collected.

HELPERS ARE NEEDED this coming Saturday, July 28,for various cleaning and repair jobs that are needed to be done around the church grounds.  Please bring paintbrushes, paint cups, sandpaper, brooms, and shovels.  Work will begin around 8 AM.

The mission of “Worship for Shut-ins” is Sharing Christ’s Love through Ministry and Media. Worship for Shut-ins ministers not only to homebound and infirmed but also to those who may not know Jesus as their Savior.  Many of its viewers are on limited incomes; therefore, it takes outside sources to support this ministry costing $1,760 weekly on ten (10) Indiana television stations and DIRECTV throughout Indiana. The $12,000grant will enable the ministry to continue reaching out to homebound, un-churched, infirmed and incarcerated through the TV ministry of “Worship for Shut-ins”.    “Worship for Shut-ins” may be viewed locally every Sunday morning on channel 40 at 10:00 a.m. or on Directv.

He is in the hospital on a ventilator, and his health is failing.

SENIOR LEAGUE MEMBERS will gather this evening at 5:30 PM at Bob Evans for supper and then return to the Fellowship Room for their monthly meeting and socializing.

MISSION TRIP: Sam Setty, son of Richelle Bushur, attends Lutheran High School in Indianapolis and will leave on July 22 to participate in a mission trip to New Orleans to help rebuild homes that are still uninhabitable after hurricane Katrina.  If you would like to make a donation to Sam to help cover his expenses, please make a check payable to him and mail it to 130 Pine St., Indianapolis, IN  46227.

DEPOSITS OF $30 and $83 have been deposited to the church and school accounts, respectively, on behalf of the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans' Thrivent Choice (R) program.  Members who directed their dollars for this include: Mildred Behrman, Brian Purdue, Ken Bode, Philip Burbrink, Jack Dunn, Mike Mensendiek, Greg Meyer, Kathy Sanders, and Joan Schlehuser.                                    

LWML MISSION MOMENTS:  154 delegates awarded $120,000 in mission grants at the LWML convention in June.  Orphan Grain Train received $12,000 – Most of us are familiar with the work of the Orphan Grain Train.   This grant money will be used to purchase a truck to enable this humanitarian project to continue reaching people with donations of all kinds.

LWML MISSION MOMENTS:  154 delegates awarded $120,000 in mission grants at the LWML convention in June.  Lutheran Military Veterans and Families Ministries received $12,000. Hundreds of thousands of veterans and their families from wars both past and most recent are struggling with spiritual questions, mental, emotional and physical health issues.  The rate of suicide, substance abuse, domestic violence and child abuse has increased among veterans and their families.  The LMVFM offers specialized ministry to meet these unique needs of military veterans and their families through the love of Jesus.  Government agencies charged with providing care to veterans and their families are restricted from treating or addressing the spiritual wounds of war.  The care and services offered to veterans and their families cover only those who meet a set of restrictive guidelines, thus leaving a large number of veterans without any care, services or benefits.  LMVFM assists all who have served our country by offering Christ’s care and assistance to those who have not only suffered physical, emotional, physical and relational wounds, but the spiritual wounds which separate man from God.  LMVFM seeks to support, educate, and equip clergy, Stephen ministers, congregations and counselors with knowledge and tools they will need to effectively work with veterans and their families, thus enabling them to demonstrate Christ’s love and show His compassion to those who have bravely served their country.

LCH “NEEDS YOU” for our Lutheran Community Home quarterly “DINING ROOM BONUS BUCK SALE”, on Friday, July 13 @ 2:00pm.   This is like a big yard sale for our residents to buy things with their “Bonus Bucks”.  Bonus Bucks are earned by attending group activities.  We are reaching out to our churches to help with our sale Items needed:  baked goods, cookies and other snacks, candy (regular or sugar free) or anything you would like to donate for the sale.
