WE COME IN PRAYER:  Heavenly Father, according to Your mercy You have blessed us and provided for us in countless ways.  By Your Spirit, equip us to use the blessings of wealth You have given us as a means to worship You and to share the message of the Gospel with our neighbor.  In Jesus’ name we pray.  Amen.

PORTALS OF PRAYER devotional booklets for October-December will be available from the ushers today after worship.  Large print are also available.

 

JOIN US SUNDAYS after church in the Fellowship Room for the Adult Bible Class and coffee and snacks.  Our current study, “Called to Vote,”      provides congregations and pastors with a tool that is designed to spark a thoughtful biblical conversation about voting in a democracy.  Specifically, it addresses ways in which the Lutheran Confession of Faith may be applied to political situations in which choices must be made.

 

SENIOR LEAGUE MEMBERS will meet for supper this evening at 5:30 p.m. at IHOP restaurant at West Hill.  They will then return to the Fellowship Room for their monthly meeting and socializing.

TRINITY OPEN HOUSE:  Trinity Lutheran High School will hold its first Open House this year next Saturday, September 24, from 8:00-10:00 AM.  Each    student will receive a $75 voucher that will help cover registration costs at  Trinity for the 2017-2018 school year.  Please enter through the gymnasium.

WE COME IN PRAYER:  Heavenly Father, we thank and praise You for the teaching and preaching of Your Word in our midst.  May Your Word pass from the ear to the heart, from the heart to the lip, and from the lip to life so that others can see our trust in You.  Give us strength to fight the good fight of faith so that we may finally receive the salvation of our souls.  This we pray for Jesus’ sake.  Amen.

BIBLE STUDIES:  Mom’s Bible Study will begin this Wednesday, September 14, from 3:30-5:00 p.m. at Miss Schneider’s house, and Mrs. Jack’s will begin also this Wednesday from 5:00-6:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Room.  It’s not too late to join either one of these groups!

MANY THANKS TO all who helped/supported last night’s Smorgasbord & Bazaar with donations of food and working time.  It is a blessing to have the cooperation and help of everyone to make this yearly event a success!

 

THANKS TO EVERYONE who helped at the August 20^th clean-up and landscape pruning on the church and school grounds.  In 2 hours, workers had everything pruned up and looking nice.  Workers from preschool to almost 80 years old helped!  Thanks again!

September 4 Weekly News

WE COME IN PRAYER:  Almighty God, Your Son Jesus Christ dignified our labor by sharing our toil.  Be with Your people where they work.  May they work faithfully, carry out responsibilities truthfully, and to both employer and employee, give pride in what we do and a just return for the work being done.  This we pray in Jesus’ name.  Amen.

 

OUR SUNDAY WORSHIP TIME will change to 8:45 a.m. beginning next Sunday, September 11.  Sunday School and Bible Class will follow worship – 10:15 on communion Sundays (1^st and 3^rd Sundays of the month) and 10:00 on non-communion Sundays (2^nd and 4^th Sundays).

OUR ANNUAL Smorgasbord/Bazaar will be held this coming Saturday, September 10, from 4:30-7:00 p.m.  If you have not had an opportunity to sign up to donate/help, see Connie Meyer.  Lots of help is needed for this huge undertaking!

 

A VOLUNTEER IS NEEDED to help at the Second Time Around table at the upcoming Bazaar.  A person is needed to sit at the table during the Bazaar and handle any purchases and/or questions.  Contact Jean Voelker if you could help.

 

THE MOM’S BIBLE STUDY will begin this Wednesday, September 7, from 3:30-5:00 p.m. at the teacherage.  Babysitting will be provided.  Mrs. Jack’s Bible Study will begin on Wednesday, September 14, from 5:00-6:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Room.  It’s not too late to join either one of these groups!

August 21 Weekly News

WE COME IN PRAYER: Heavenly Father, as we gather this day for       worship, prepare our hearts to receive Your gracious gifts of forgiveness, life, and salvation, that we may also be prepared to be received into Your kingdom on the las day for the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, Who is the way, the truth, and the life.  In His most holy name, we pray.  Amen.

 

TODAY’S ALTAR FLOWERS have been given by Bryan & Linda Schroer in thanksgiving for their many blessings and in celebration of their 30^th wedding anniversary this Tuesday, August 23.  Many God continue to grant you many more happy years together, Bryan & Linda!

 

CHURCH PICNIC:  Everyone is invited to our annual Church Picnic after worship today.  Get out your lawn chairs and enjoy a pork burger/hot dog lunch, music, games for the kids, and fellowship. Thanks to those who have planned and organized this fun, yearly event, and thanks to Greg Hercamp, Tom Kinney, Tammy Hercamp, Bailey Meyer, and the Schlehuser family for providing special music!

 

INSTEAD OF DOING a Time and Talent Survey this year, we are having a Spiritual Gifts Fair.  The fair will be after church, but before the picnic today.  So, if you cannot stay for the picnic but can spare a few minutes after church, please visit each of the four tables set up outside.  Taking the time to do this will make you eligible to win one of eleven gift cards (values of $10-$100).  More information about the Spiritual Gifts Fair will be shared after worship today.

THE 2^ND ANNUAL Lakeview Sprint Triathlon, 5K Run/Walk, and Children’s Fun Run will be held on Monday, September 5 (Labor Day), and registration is still open!  The sporting events will also be followed by a community day. THE LWML FALL RALLY will be held on Saturday, September 10, from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Faith Lutheran Church, Bloomington.  The theme of the Rally is “Warm Your Soul.”  All women from St. John’s are invited to come and enjoy breakfast, help tie fleece blankets, and hear about plans for the 500^th anniversary of the Reformation.  Martin Luther himself might even make an appearance with his seal!  Childcare will be provided by Faith Lutheran Youth.  Please RSVP to Jean Voelker (812-522-8168) by August 28.

 

AN EVANGELISM CONFERENCE will be held at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Avon on September 9 and 10 with the theme, “Confessing Christ in a Contrary Culture.”  Rev. Dr. Lawrence R. Rast, Jr., President of Concordia Theological Seminary, will be the keynote speaker.  Cost per person is $45 which includes a dinner on Friday night and lunch on Saturday.  After August 26, registration will be $55 per person.  A conference schedule and registration forms are available in our church office.
