IT’S NEVER TOO LATE to join Sunday School and Adult Bible Class as they meet after worship.  Sunday School children meet in the first grade classroom for opening, and adult Bible class meets in the Fellowship Room for a study on 1 John led by Pastor Whitmore.  Come and join in this study of God’s Word!

SUPPORT TRINITY STUDENTS:  The Lutheran SGO student tuition assistance campaign for Trinity has started, and the goal this year is $260,000 in tuition assistance scholarships for our students.  So far, Trinity students have received $50,000 in tuition assistance while our supporters have received over $25,000 in Indiana State Tax Credits!  Please remember that all donations provided to the Lutheran SGO program in the name of Trinity will result in a 50% State Tax Credit to the donor.  If you are interested in receiving a donation form or would like more information about the SGO program, please contact David Probst at 812-603-7970.

September 9 Weekly News

EMILY COOK will be speaking on “Bloom Where you are Planted”, at our Zone LWML Rally, next Saturday, Sept. 15^th.  All women of St. John’s are invited to come to the rally and enjoy a light breakfast, visit with Emily, help pack backpacks for the OGT., and maybe, bid on a purse at our silent auction fund raiser.  Registration begins at 8:30am, which includes a zone registration fee of $10 to help cover expenses for the zone delegates to attend the national LWML conventions. The registration fee for “First Timers”, from St. John’s, will be $5.00, with the remaining $5.00 being covered by our society.  After a brief meeting, we will end the morning with a salad lunch.

JOSEPH BIBLE STUDY:  Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is this year’s musical to be performed by the TLHS students.   In anticipation of this performance, everyone is invited to join St. Paul’s, Jonesville, for a 7-week Bible Study on The Theological Themes of Joseph led by Pastor Jung.  Throughout this study, more will be learned about Joseph’s family, the history of Egypt, and how the theological themes of the entirety of scripture are captured in the story of this one man in God’s history of salvation.  Sessions will be held Wednesday evenings, 6:30-7:30pm, September 12-October 24.  Everyone is welcome!

ST. PAUL’S, JONESVILLE Sunday School would like to invite their White Creek friends to a Back to School Skate Party this evening from 4:30-6:30pm at Columbus Skateland.  Entry is free, skate rental is $2.

“For if a man wearing a gold ring and fine clothing comes into your assembly, and a poor man in shabby clothing also come in.”  God shows no partially: rich and poor alike are called into the Kingdom.  And both rich and poor alike have something to contribute to the Kingdom in accordance with the callings God has given them in their lives.  This is why both the Old and New Testaments talk about proportional giving – that is, giving a proportion of our income to the Lord’s work.  This makes it possible for rich and poor alike to have the honor of supporting God’s work.

September 2 Weekly News

TRINITY LUTHERAN HIGH SCHOOL is in need of volunteers (men and women) who would be willing to spend one morning a month helping assemble newsletters (usually the fourth Monday).  Come enjoy fellowship, drinks and snacks and help get Trinity’s news out.  The next newsletter assembly will be Monday, August 27 at 8:34am.  Many hands make light work!

LAKEVIEW MINISTRIES TRIATHLON: The 4th Annual Lakeview Sprint Triathlon, 5K Run/Walk, and Children’s Fun Run will be held on Monday, September 3!  This Labor Day event is a sporting and fund raising effort designed to benefit both the camp’s mission of providing a Christian experience of growth, inspiration, and recreation and its desire to keep registration costs financially feasible for any family who wants to send their child or children to camp.  The day’s sporting events will be followed by a community day. Fellowship, food, and entertainment for the whole family will be provided.  (A free will offering will be accepted to defray food costs.)All are invited to come out and join in as either a participant, volunteer, or community member that day!

“Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.  Therefore do no associate with them.”  The wrath of God is a real thing and we do well to reflect on this.  As the Small Catechism states: God threatens to punish all who break these commandments.  Therefore, we should fear His wrath and not do anything against them.  But He promises grace and every blessings to all who keep these commandments.  Therefore, we should also love and trust in Him and gladly do what He commands.

TODAY’S ALTAR FLOWERS have been given by Thomas & Emily Nienaber in praise and thanksgiving to God as they begin their married life together.  God’s blessings to them!

AUGUST YOUTH MEAL DEALS are being offered for silent auction through August 26, when the winners will be announced.  This month’s meals are: 1) Chicken & dressing casserole, green beans, rolls, 7-layer bars; and 2) Chicken enchiladas, salad, apple pie w/vanilla ice cream.  Submit your bid on the sign-in sheets in the narthex.  Many thanks from the youth for your support!

BACKPACK SUPPLIES:  Please return all purchased supplies by next Sunday, August 19 – a box is in the narthex to receive items.  Thank you for sharing your blessings to help those in need!

SENIOR LEAGUE MEMBERS will meet at 5:00pm for supper next Sunday evening and then return to the Fellowship Room for socializing.

OUR ANNUAL SMORGASBORD/BAZAAR will be held on Saturday, September 8, with serving beginning at 4:30pm.  Cost of the meal is $10 for adults (13 and older), $5 for children 4-12 yrs., and free for children 3 and under.  Take-out orders will be available in the Fellowship Room.  Check the sign-up sheets today in the narthex for donations and help needed from our entire congregation.

NOODLE-MAKING for the upcoming smorgasbord will be held this Friday afternoon (around 1:30) in our school kitchen.  All help would be greatly appreciated!  Contact Connie Meyer (812-371-3874) for any questions.

GOLF OUTING:  Our Senior High Youth will be sponsoring a Golf Outing at Shadowood Golf Course, Seymour, on Saturday, September 29, beginning at 8:00am.  Entry cost is $65/player, which includes 18 holes with cart and lunch.  Registration deadline is Friday, September 7.  Registration forms are available in the narthex and our church office.  Prizes will be awarded and a raffle will be held.

 

INDIVIDUALS/BUSINESSES are being sought to be a sponsor for the Youth Golf Outing at Shadowood Golf Course in Seymour on Saturday, September 29.  They are seeking event sponsors and donations for raffle prizes.  If you would like to be a sponsor or donate raffle items, please contact Jason Hill at (812-350-2161, jasonhill2005@netscape.net) or Michelle Barnett (mb_barnett@yahoo.com).  All proceeds will go to help with expenses  to attend the 2019 National Youth Gathering next summer. 

TRINITY LUTHERAN HIGH SCHOOL is in need of volunteers (men and women) who would be willing to spend one morning a month helping assemble newsletters (usually the fourth Monday).  Come enjoy fellowship, drinks and snacks and help get Trinity’s news out.  The next newsletter assembly will be Monday, August 27 at 8:34am.  Many hands make light work!

WCLS SCHOOL PARENTS:  Just a reminder that White Creek Lutheran School registration day for grades 3-8 is tomorrow, Monday, August 6, 9:00-11:00am and 5:30-7:00pm.  School begins this Wednesday, August 8.  Our chapel service will be held at 8:30am.  Everyone is invited to join our students and staff as we give praise and thanksgiving to God for another school year.
