June 2 Weekly News


TODAY'S ALTAR FLOWERS have been given by Ken & Kyra Bode in thanksgiving and celebration of their 25th wedding anniversary June 10.  May God grant you many more happy years together, Ken & Kyra!

 

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL, "River of Life-Part 2," will be held this Tuesday-Thursday, June 4-6, from 6:00-8:15 PM each evening.  Helpers are still needed for various capacities - see Pastor Cook or contact Becky in the church office if you would be able to help!

 

OPEN HOUSE:  Camp Lakeview's Annual Open House is TODAY.  Worship will begin at 11:00 AM at the outdoor amphitheater with guest speaker Rev. Brad Hubbard from St. Mark Lutheran, Battle Creek, MI.  If you can't make it to worship, join us for a delicious FREE picnic lunch starting at 12:00, then stick around for afternoon activities such as horseback riding, zip-line, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and tours of the new Lakeview Village expansion.  What a great time for the whole family!  Everyone is welcome!

 

COOKIE FELLOWSHIP:  We will have a Cookie Fellowship time after worship next Sunday to celebrate the end of Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.  If you would be willing to donate several dozen cookies, please contact Becky in the church office.

 

VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED to help weed, water, etc. flowers on the church/school grounds this summer.  If you would be willing to help out a couple of weeks, please contact Ruth Schlehuser or Travis Eckelman.

 

 

DVDs AVAILABLE:  DVDs of our recent school musical, "A Tale of Three Trees," are now available for purchase for $5 each.  See Becky in the church office if you would like to purchase one.  If you did not get to see the musical, don't miss this opportunity to enjoy this wonderful presentation by our talented students!

 

BRICKS:  Orders are now being taken for any new bricks to be laid around the church or in the memory garden.  Cost is $100 per brick.  Please contact Ernie & Donna Dettmer or Larry & Janice Claycamp if you would like to order.  Orders will be taken anytime through Labor Day.

 

AN LWML INGATHERING will be held at the National LWML Convention June 26 in Pittsburgh including the following items:  all sizes of quilts/blankets, wipes and disposable wipes; babies' kits (receiving blankets, preemie/newborn sleepers, onesies, outfits, and Christian storybook); men's kits (boxers, L-XXXL, t-shirts, L-XXXL, socks, Christian tract or Bible verse); bath kits (towel and washcloth, full size toothpaste and toothbrush, deodorant, bar soap, Christian tract or Bible verse); devotional kits (Bible-NIV or ESV, devotional, journal and pen).  A box is in our narthex to receive items.  Please have all items in by June 23.

 

PARENTS OF WCLS STUDENTS are reminded that report cards may be picked up this Tuesday, June 4, from 8:30-11:00 AM or 5:30-6:30 PM.

May 26 Weekly News


TODAY IS TRINITY SUNDAY, and we observe it by saying the Athanasian Creed during our worship.  "The Athanasian Creed declares that its teaching concerning the Holy Trinity and our Lord's incarnation are "the catholic faith."  In other words, this is what the true Church of all times and all places has confessed.  More than fifteen centuries later, the Church continues to confess this truth, confident that the triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, has given Himself for our salvation."  (LSB, p. 319)

May 19 Weekly News


TODAY WE OBSERVE Pentecost, the day the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples in the form of tongues of fire.  Pentecost comes from the Greek word, pentekostos,  which means fifty (in this case fifty days after Easter).

 

TODAY IS the last day of Sunday School and Bible Class for the summer.  Classes will begin again the Sunday after Labor Day, September 8.  Many thanks to Matt Riley, superintendent, and all the teachers and helpers for their time and dedication!

PARISH HALL TOUR:  St. Paul's, Jonesville, has invited us to come and tour their new Parish Hall TODAY at 11:30 AM.  All interested persons invited.

 

SENIOR LEAGUE MEMBERS will meet at the IHOP restaurant at West Hill THIS EVENING at 5:30 PM for supper and will then return to the Fellowship Room for their monthly meeting and socializing.

THE PHIL'S FRIENDS WALK was a huge success!  The White Creek walk raised $4,150 that will go directly to Phil's Friends to help fund their mission of "Providing Christ-centered support and hope to those afflicted with cancer."  A special thanks to those who walked, donated, and helped make this possible!  What a blessing that this congregation gave so generously to share the love of Christ to those in need!

May 12 Weekly News


NEXT SUNDAY, May 19, will be the last day of Sunday School and Bible Class for the summer.  Classes will begin again the Sunday after Labor Day, September 8.

 

BOARD OF EDUCATION MEMBERS will meet next Sunday, May 19, after Sunday School and Bible Class.

 

PARISH HALL TOUR:  St. Paul's, Jonesville, has invited us to come and tour their new Parish Hall next Sunday, May 19, at 11:30 AM.  All interested persons invited.

FISH FRY/SILENT AUCTION:  The Relay for Life Team Kristie's Krew will again be sponsoring a fish fry (free-will donation) and silent auction to raise funds for the American Cancer Society.  This event will be held on Friday, May 17, at the Hope Moravian Church from 4:00-8:00 PM.  Dessert donations (preferably doesn't need to be refrigerated) and silent auction donations are needed.  Call or text Kristie Wessel at 812-350-2047 to make arrangements to pick up any donations.  Everyone invited to come out and support this worthy cause!

CONGRATULATIONS TO Dan & Jeanne Lienhoop on the birth of their son, SAWYER DANIEL, this past Tuesday, May 7.  Sawyer arrived weighing 7 lbs. 14 ozs. and measuring 20 inches.  Everyone is doing fine.  God's blessings to them!

 

CONGRATULATIONS TO Whitney Vandercar and Jael (Buss) Sylva as they have received their Masters Degrees from Ball State last Saturday, May 4, and to Danette Mensendiek as she received her RN degree from Ivy Tech yesterday.  God's blessings to them!

A SPECIAL WELCOME TO Mrs. Clow and her family as we celebrate her upcoming retirement with a reception in our school gym TODAY after worship.  Come and greet Mrs. Clow and her family - light refreshments will be served.

   

PHIL'S FRIENDS CARDS:  Those helping with Phil's Friends cards will begin meet at 6:00 PM this evening.  If you would like to bring a white t-shirt, we will be tie-dyeing shirts for the Phil's Friends Walk next Saturday, May 11.  All those walking are welcome - just bring your own t-shirt!

 

THE YOUTH GROUPS will meet this evening at 7:00 PM.

 

GUILD MEMBERS are reminded to meet this Thursday, May 9, at 5:15 PM at Johnny Carino's  restaurant for their supper meeting.

 

PHIL'S FRIENDS WALK FOR HOPE: White Creek will join with the Phil's Friends Walk for Hope (Chicago) next Saturday, May 11, to raise funds to allow Phil's Friends to continue to bring hope to those who are affected by cancer.  Opening ceremonies acknowledging those with cancer, survivors, and those we miss will begin at 10:45 AM, with the Walk beginning at 11:00 AM.  To register, contact Janet Morey at 812-350-6238 or go online to www.philsfriends.org.  Pledge sheets are available in the narthex and the church office or persons may donate online.  If you would like to make a donation, please make payable to Phil's Friends and give to Janet Morey.  Our parish nurse, Amberly Hoffman, will be offering free blood pressure checks at this walk.

April 21 Weekly News


TODAY'S ALTAR FLOWERS have been given in loving memory of Alan Schlehuser in remembrance of his 24th birthday this past Thursday, April 18, by Terry, Ruth, and Betsy Schlehuser.

 

A SPECIAL VOTERS' MEETING will be held after worship TODAY.  All members are asked to attend this meeting as decisions will be made regarding the direction our congregation will take in making accommodations for our increasing school enrollment.

 

SENIOR LEAGUE MEMBERS will gather for supper THIS EVENING at 5:30 PM at Bob Evans Restaurant, West Hill, and then return to the Fellowship Room for their monthly meeting and socializing.  Guests are always welcome to join them!

GOLF SCRAMBLE:  The Youth Group (W.H.A.M.) of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Waymansville, will be sponsoring its 4th annual Golf Scramble on Saturday, May 4, at Hickory Hills Golf Course, Brownstown,  Registration begins at 8:00 AM, with the tourney starting at 9:00 AM.  Cost is $40/person, which includes 18 holes of golf, cart, food, and drink.  Teams are asked to contact Adam at 812-498-3056 or AJ at 812-498-0580.

BOARD OF EDUCATION MEMBERS are reminded of their meeting TODAY after Bible Class and Sunday School.

MANY THANKS TO those who gave a memorial to the school in memory of Pastor Brandt.  To date, a total of $2512.00 has been received.  Members of St. John's will have this included on their year-end offering statement.

 

A SPECIAL THANKS TO everyone who donated items for Phil's Friends care packages.  Enough items were collected to fill 5 care packages (plus a little more!).  These will be distributed to those afflicted by cancer in our area (which saves cost of shipping and distributing from Chicago).  As we have witnessed in our congregation, the love and support given in time of need can have a huge impact in our lives and those in need.

SPRING FLOWER SALE:  Our school is currently taking orders for spring hanging flower baskets and $10 gift coupons from Whipker's Market.  Orders will be taken after today's worship in the narthex.  All orders with payments need to be turned in to the school office by Wednesday, April 17.  Proceeds will go to special school projects.

 

SCHOOL MUSICAL: A limited number of tickets (suggested $2/ticket donation) are available for our upcoming school musical, "A Tale of Three Trees," this Friday and Saturday, April 19 and 20.  Contact Mrs. Vandercar by telephone (812-988-7586) or by email at  wvandercar@whitecreek.org to request tickets.

 

A DEPOSIT OF $141.00 has been made to our school account  on behalf of the Thrivent Financial for Lutheran's Thrivent Choice Program.  Thrivent Financial members directing their Choice Dollars include: Mark & Jan Buss, Keith Carmichael, Mariagnes Meyer, James Ross, and Joel Wise.

 

OUR PARISH NURSE,  Amberly Hoffman, would like to start a walking group here at St. John's on Wednesday evenings (late afternoon/early evening before church).  She also plans to calculate steps around the church so persons can come and walk laps and figure out how many miles they have walked.  Contact Amberly at amhoffman07@hotmail.com for questions or to let her know you are interested.  Watch for more details.....
