SENIOR LEAGUE MEMBERS are reminded they will meet this evening at Bob Evans at 5:30 PM for supper and will then return to the Fellowship Room for their monthly meeting and socializing.

 

AN 8-WEEK BIBLE STUDY, led by Jean Jack, will begin on Wednesday, September 9, 5:00-6:00 PM, in the Fellowship Room.  "God Is in the Laundry Room" is based on Jeremiah 29:13 and inspires women to see the purpose and significance in every part of their daily life and to seek God in even the smallest tasks.  Contact Jean at 1-714-768-5731 to enroll.

 

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL enrollment forms for students in K-6th grade are available in the narthex. (Forms were sent with WCLS students last Wednesday.) VBS will be held on Saturday, August 29, from 9:00-3:00.  A few volunteers are still needed - check the sign-up sheet in the narthex.  Contact Katie Otte, coordinator, at 812-341-5333 for any questions.  Enrollment forms may be turned in to the church office.

CHURCH HISTORY:  In April of 1909, the interior of the church was beautifully decorated for the first time at a cost of $500.  The decorating was done by G.H. Schanbacher & Son.

BIBLE STUDIES:  One of the Bible studies being led by Emily Cook on Luther’s Large Catechism, will begin this evening at 7 PM in the Fellowship Room (no babysitting provided-men are  welcome, too!).  This study is also offered on Wednesday afternoons at 3:30 PM at the parsonage  (babysitting provided). MANY THANKS TO the Anniversary Committee for planning such a blessed, fun Old Fashion Mission Festival last Sunday!  Praise to God for the donations of $401.00 in the plate offering and $1090.31 from the Mission Festival donations/activities tickets!  All of these donations will be forwarded to the Lutheran Heritage Foundation.

CHURCH HISTORY:  In October of 1903, it was resolved that evening services be conducted in English.  This was unusual for most of the German speaking congregations.  Morning services were conducted in German until 1942 when all German services were discontinued.

July 26 Weekly News

TODAY WE WELCOME Rev. Herbert Schumm, a representative of the Lutheran Heritage Foundation.  After today’s service, Rev. Schumm will tell about LHF’s mission work around the globe and how God calls people to faith through the Lutheran literature available in their own languages.  To support this important mission effort, you may use the special offering envelope attached to the enclosed LHF brochure.  Today’s loose change plate offering will go to support the LHF’s mission work.

 

AUGUST CALENDAR AND NEWS will be available from the ushers after today’s worship.

 

OUR OLD FASHIONED MISSION FESTIVAL, part of our 175th anniversary celebration, is being held after today’s worship.  Everyone is invited to enjoy a picnic lunch, carriage rides, pony rides, cupcake walk,   carnival games, an old fashion concession stand with candy, cracker jacks, pies, cookies, drinks, and hand-dipped ice cream cones.  Get out your lawn chairs, eat and listen to music, and enjoy the fun and               festivities.  All of this at old time prices - just 25 cents will purchase one of these concessions, rides or  activity.  All  proceeds will go to missions.   Be sure to check out the antiques and artifacts that are on   display outside and in the gym.

THE OPHAN GRAIN TRAIN OPEN HOUSE:  The dedication, ribbon cutting, and Open House for the  Orphan Grain Train will be held this afternoon, with the dedication service beginning at 2:00 PM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Jonesville.  Parking will be at St. Paul’s, and a shuttle bus will operate between St. Paul and the warehouse site at 209 Jackson St., Jonesville until 5:00 PM.  Those attending will have the         opportunity to “work like a volunteer” with hands-on experience in the sorting area and to make a donation of clothing for children from birth-age 5 toward the shipping of the first overseas container to the Latvia orphanages..  Light refreshments will be served, and a silent auction of 12 handmade quilts will be held, with all proceeds to help offset shipping costs.

CONGREGATIONAL HISTORY:  In December of 1899, the parsonage burned to the ground.  With the congregation furnishing the materials, a new parsonage was built at a cost of $350.  This parsonage, built in 1900, served the pastors of White Creek for more than 65 years.

CONGREGATIONAL HISTORY:  By 1886, the first Mission Festival was held.  A total of $41.53 was collected that Sunday.  By 1896, the amount collected for mission purposes on the Mission Festival Sunday had increased to $142.73.  In September of 1889, the first English Mission Festival was held on the afternoon of the Mission Festival.  Mission Festivals continued to be held annually at White Creek into the 1960s.

 

THE ANNIVERSARY DINNER of the CrossLife Ministries Auxiliary will be held on Monday, July 20, at 6:30 PM at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Dudleytown.  All are invited to enjoy the evening of fellowship and become familiar with the ministry to individuals, marriages, and families throughout Jackson and Bartholomew counties.  Plans for the Fall Luncheon and Bake Sale will be discussed.  Please bring a covered dish to share.  Drinks and anniversary cake will be provided.

 

CONGRATULATIONS TO Brad & Amanda Hoene on the birth of their son, LANE ALAN HOENE.  Lane arrived weighing 8 lbs. 9 ozs. and measuring 21 1/2 ins.  Everyone is doing fine - God's blessings to them.

OFFERING INFORMATION:  The loose change plate offering goes into our Synodical Fund to help with various missions of the Indiana District and LCMS.  Offering envelopes and checks go into our General Fund to help with our congregation’s expenses.  In the near future, electronic payments will be accepted - watch for more information about this.

 

THE OPHAN GRAIN TRAIN OPEN HOUSE:  The dedication, ribbon cutting, and Open House for the Orphan Grain Train will be held on Sunday, July 26, with the dedication service beginning at 2:00 PM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Jonesville.  Parking will be at St. Paul’s, and a shuttle bus will operate between St. Paul and the warehouse site at 209 Jackson St., Jonesville until 5:00 PM.  Those attending will have the opportunity to “work like a volunteer” with hands-on experience in the sorting area and to make a donation of clothing for children from birth-age 5 toward the shipping of the first overseas container to the Latvia orphanages..  Light refreshments will be served, and a silent auction of 12 handmade quilts will be held, with all proceeds to help offset shipping costs.
