PIE SUNDAY: Pie sheets are included in today’s bulletin.  Please complete your pie sheet (you may also color it if you like!) and return it so it can be posted on the windows in the narthex.  A Christian Growth Card is also being given to each family of our congregation and is intended to help each family sit down and consider what gifts God has given to them and what they are doing with those gifts.  These will then be put into sealed envelopes to be put in a basket in the church on Pie Sunday, November 11.  Also on Pie Sunday, please bring your favorite pie to share after worship as we enjoy a delicious dessert and fellowship with our church family.

LUTHERAN HERITAGE SPEAKER, Rev. Dr. Gregory Seltz will be presenting Religious Liberty in America and the Proclamation of the Gospel at Grace Lutheran Church, Columbus, next Saturday, November 3.  Dr. Seltz is the Executive Director of the Lutheran Center for Religious Liberty in Washington, D.C. and a former Lutheran Hour speaker.  He will discuss biblical teachings that address the needs of our culture and mission of the Church.  The evening will begin with a potluck meal (bring a side dish to share) at 5:30pm, followed by the keynote address at 6:15pm and a question and discussion time at 7:30pm.  Everyone is invited, and babysitting will be provided.

IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, Seymour, is hosting a piano concert by Yaroslav Boychenko TODAY at 3:30pm in Immanuel’s Sanctuary.  Rev. Boychenko grew up in an atheist home in Russia, but was led to faith through the works of J.S. Bach and Rev. Leif Camp, a missionary who Immanuel supports. He is now a Lutheran pastor in Nizhniy Novgorod.  The public is invited.

TICKETS are now available for the WCLS 19^th Annual Basket Bingo Night to be held on Friday, November 9, in our school gym.  Doors will open at 5:30pm, with Bingo starting at 6:30pm.  Tickets are $20 and may be purchased from any WCLS student or through our office.

LWML SUNDAY is being observed today.  This year’s theme for celebrating all that God has done through the mission work of the Lutheran Women in Mission (LWML) is “Our Rest in a Changing World,” based on Psalm 62:1-8.  As God’s children, we rest in the assurance that He loves us and sent His Son to redeem us.  God is our rock and salvation.  That firm foundation enables us to reach out into a changing world in need of the Gospel.  Since 1942, the LWML has affirmed each woman’s identity as a child of God and her relationship with Jesus Christ, encouraging the equipping Christian women to live out their lives in active mission ministries, and to support missions around the world through their sacrificial gifts of mites, tithes, offerings, and tireless service.

Mite boxes are available in our narthex if you would like to support this ministry with your daily spare change and may be turned in to our church office at any time.

EVERYONE IS INVITED to a musical concert hosted by the First United Methodist Church, 618 Eighth Street, Columbus, this Friday, October 19, at 7:00pm.  Internationally known cellist, Arkady Orlovsky, and internationally acclaimed pianist, Tamara Orlovsky, will be performing.  Mr. Orlovsky is the former musical director for the Columbus Symphony Orchestra.  The concert is free and open to the public, with doors opening one half hour before the concert.

“And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, but to those who were disobedient?  So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief.”  Unbelief leads to disobedience – that is, every sin expresses the opposite of faith.  True and living faith guides us into the Lord’s way and the Lord’s plan.  And when we fall into sin it’s because we are not trusting the Lord’s goodness and provision.

NEXT SUNDAY we will observe LWML Sunday and celebrate all that God has done through the mission work of the Lutheran Women in Mission (LWML).  The LWML has given a Laborers of Love Mission Grant (#14) of $100,000 to the Lutheran Braille Workers to print 20,000 English Standard Version Bible in braille or large print at more than 100 LBW Work Centers for the blind and visually impaired.  These free Bibles of 37 volumes each will be shared to give needed spiritual nourishment to the more than 11 million visually challenged in the U.S., of which 95% have never heard the saving news of Jesus.   Pray for this mission grant ministry.  Mite boxes are available in our narthex if you would like to support this ministry with your daily spare change and may be turned in to our church office at any time.

MITES FOR MISSIONS:  Based on the Biblical account of the Widow’s Mite in Mark 12, the LWML Mite Box is intended for regular contributions of “mites” – offerings above and beyond the support given to the congregation and the Synod.  Mite Box contributions amount to millions of dollars that fund district and national mission grants.  The LWML has collected over $100 million dollars since 1942.  These coins have and will continue to make a difference by providing the opportunity to spread the Gospel to the world.

“But from the beginning of creation...”  In recent years, our country, along with most all the (formerly) Christian nations of Europe, has lost its way when it comes to marriage.  We have ignored the fact that it is God Who created us.  We always go off the tracks when we forget that He made us and that everything good in this world comes from His hand.  In big things and in small things, in the life of a nation or the life of an individual, things go dreadfully wrong when we ignore the Creator’s instructions for life.

SUPPORT TRINITY STUDENTS:  The Lutheran SGO student tuition assistance campaign for Trinity has started, and the goal this year is $260,000 in tuition assistance scholarships for our students.  So far, Trinity students have received $50,000 in tuition assistance while our supporters have received over $25,000 in Indiana State Tax Credits!  Please remember that all donations provided to the Lutheran SGO program in the name of Trinity will result in a 50% State Tax Credit to the donor.  If you are interested in receiving a donation form or would like more information about the SGO program, please contact David Probst at 812-603-7970.

STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK:     Mark 9:32       

“But they did not understand the saying and were afraid to ask him.”  The disciples really do hold up a mirror to our faces and force us to see ourselves:  misunderstanding, afraid, confused.  But the Word of God is clear if only we will listen with open ears.  What was blocking the disciples’ ears?  He Gospels tell us time and again:  they did not expect a suffering Christ, and so when Jesus spoke of suffering, they plugged their ears and didn’t listen, and so they ended up confused and scared.  What about us?  What’s in the Word of God that we find heard to hear and contrary to our desires and expectations?  That might just be exactly what we need to hear.

OPEN HOUSE:  Trinity Lutheran High School invites students and their families to an open house on Sunday, October 7th from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. SUPPORT TRINITY STUDENTS:  The Lutheran SGO student tuition assistance campaign for Trinity has started, and the goal this year is $260,000 in tuition assistance scholarships for our students.  So far, Trinity students have received $50,000 in tuition assistance while our supporters have received over $25,000 in Indiana State Tax Credits!  Please remember that all donations provided to the Lutheran SGO program in the name of Trinity will result in a 50% State Tax Credit to the donor.  If you are interested in receiving a donation form or would like more information about the SGO program, please contact David Probst at 812-603-7970.

BABY BLESSINGS:  Congratulations to Stacy & Brea on the birth of their son, GRAYSON LEE YORK, on Friday, September 7.  Grayson arrived weighing 7 lbs. 6 ozs. and measuring 20 ins. And congratulations to Logan & Emila on the birth of their daughter, JOSALYNNE MARIE FOWLER, also on Friday, September 7. Josalynne arrived weighing 9 lbs. 5 ozs. and measuring 21½  ins.  Both moms and babies are doing fine.  God’s blessings to all of them!

“Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, ‘I believe’ help my unbelief!.”  Haven’t we often felt like this!  And notice that Jesus does not throw the man out because of his weakness of faith: He still blesses the man as His Lord.  But neither does Jesus leave people in weakness of faith.  He blesses us and calls us to a deeper faith-as He did to the disciples in the boat on the storm tossed sea.  How does our faith grow?  By hearing the Word of God.  What does our faith lead to as it grows?  A godly life lived in thanksgiving to our Lord.      TBLESSINGS ON YOUR WEEK!
