December 23 Weekly News


NEW YEAR'S EVE WORSHIP will begin at 7:00 PM.  Holy Communion will be celebrated.

 

PLEASE NOTE:  There will be no Wednesday evening worship this week, December 26, and next, January 2.  Holy Communion will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 9.

 

THERE WILL BE NO Sunday School or Bible Class next Sunday, December 30.  Classes resume Sunday, January 6.

 

AN OPEN FORUM to discuss our increasing school enrollment and accommodations for that will be held at 1:00 PM January 6 (before the annual Voters' Meeting) in the gymnasium.  Everyone is encouraged to come and participate in this discussion pertaining to our school ministry here at St. John's.

 

OUR ANNUAL VOTERS' MEETING will be held on Sunday, January 6, at 1:30 PM in the Fellowship Room.  All confirmed members of our congregation, 18 years and older are encouraged to attend.

December 16 Weekly News


OUR THIRD MIDWEEK ADVENT WORSHIP will be held this Wednesday evening at 7 PM.  Our Youth will be serving a chili and baked potato bar supper before worship, beginning at 5:45 PM.

 

CHRISTMAS WORSHIP:  Two services will be held Christmas Eve: the first at 4:30 PM and the children's program at 6:30 PM, with pre-service music at 6:15 PM.  Worship will begin at 9:00 AM Christmas Day and will include Holy Communion.  (Please note that there will be no Wednesday evening worship on December 26.)

 

PORTALS OF PRAYER devotional books for January-March are available in the narthex.  Large print copies are also available.

 

THE JUNIOR HIGH YOUTH will meet at 6:00 PM this evening to make cards for Phil's Friends.

 

CHRISTMAS CANDY TREATS:  Persons who would like to donate to the children's Christmas candy treats may give their donation to the Elder or any of the ushers TODAY.

 

THE 2013 LUTHERAN ANNUAL may be ordered through the church office.  Cost is $20.69.  Please contact Becky by TODAY.  Checks may be made payable to our church.

 

THE LADIES AID Christmas Party will be held this Wednesday, December 19, at the Elk's Lodge in Columbus. Members are reminded to bring their Prayer Pal card and their Little Red Stocking.

M.M.  This professional choral/orchestra ensemble will include in their wonderful program a harp solo, a piano/organ duet, an organ solo, and congregational Christmas carol singing.  A reception will follow the concert.  This is a free event.

December 9 Weekly News


CHRISTMAS EVE PRE-SERVICE MUSIC:  If you would like to participate in the pre-service Christmas Eve, either singing or playing a musical instrument, please sign up TODAY on the sheet posted on the bulletin board in the front hall of school .

 

OUR SECOND MIDWEEK ADVENT WORSHIP will be held this Wednesday evening at 7 PM.  Our Youth will be serving a taco bar supper before worship, beginning at 5:45 PM.

 

WORSHIP SCHEDULE:  At last Sunday's Voters' Meeting, the voters voted to keep our worship time at 9:00 AM with Sunday School and Bible Class following at 10:15 AM.

 

TODAY Mrs. Barnett will be recognized for 15 years of service and Mrs. Clow for 35 years of teaching at the close of the worship service.  Dr. Jon Mielke from the Indiana District office will be making the presentations.  Please be seated after the last hymn.  Sunday School staff and children are asked to also remain seated.

COOKIE SALE:  The Ladies Aid and Guild are holding their annual Cookie Sale TODAY in the front hall of school.  Come and purchase some delicious goodies!  Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will be providing matching funds.

 

CARD DELIVERY:  Our Youth will again be delivering Christmas cards locally for 25 cents/card.  The container is in the narthex for card drop-off.  Cards will be delivered next Sunday, December 16.

SUNDAY SCHOOL CHILDREN in grades 1-8 will meet in the gymnasium today to practice for the Christmas Eve program.  The 2s, 3s & 4s, and K children will meet in their classrooms as usual.

 

OUR DECEMBER VOTERS' MEETING will be held TODAY after worship.  (NO Bible Class.)  The business at hand will include accepting the slate of nominees for 2013 church offices and determining our worship schedule time.  All confirmed members of our congregation, 18 years and older, are encouraged to attend.

INGATHERING FOR ARMED FORCES:  A sheet listing needed items for our troops is available in the narthex.  These items will be gathered and shipped out for the Christmas holiday.  Please consider sending in items to help with this project and let our soldiers know they have our support!  A box will be in the front hall of school and in the church narthex to receive items.  The items will be prepared for shipment next Saturday, December 8, in our school cafeteria.

 

THE YOUTH GROUPS will be decorating the church and narthex today after Sunday School.  Many thanks to them and all who help!

November 25 Weekly News


DECEMBER CALENDAR AND NEWS will be available from the ushers after today's worship.  Please note that there are no worship times listed on the calendar as that will be decided at the December 2nd  Voters' Meeting.

 

A CONGREGATIONAL POLL to gather input on preferences regarding our worship schedule will be given out today.  Please take a few moments to complete this poll and hand it to an usher when you leave.  The results of this poll will be made official at the Voters' Meeting next Sunday.

 

THE CHURCH COUNCIL will meet this Wednesday after worship in the Fellowship Room.  Your attendance is very important!

GRAIN TRAIN BUCKETS:  All Orphan Grain Train buckets with cleaning supplies need to be turned in TODAY.  If you did not have a chance to get your bucket filled, please return the empty bucket. If you need to have your bucket picked up, please call Betty McCrory (342-3580).

LIVING NATIVITY:  St. Peter, Waymansville, will hold its 5th Annual Living Nativity this coming Friday and Saturday, November 30 and December 1.  Friday hours are from 5:30-8:30 PM, with the Bethlehem Choir singing at 6:30 and 7:30 in the sanctuary. and Saturday hours are from 12:00-4:00 PM, with special activities for the children, which include picture-taking with the animals, a storyteller, and take-home surprises.  Free refreshments will be served in the parish hall on both days.  Everyone invited!

BASKET BINGO NIGHT:  The 13th annual Basket Bingo Night will be held this Friday, November 16, in our gym.  Doors will open at 5:30 PM, with bingo to begin at 6:30 PM. Tickets are now on sale for $20 if prepaid before the event or $25 at the door.  See any WCLS student or contact the school office to purchase tickets beforehand, or tickets will be available at the door ($25).  

 

BUTTER BRAID/CHEESECAKE SALE:  Our school is currently holding its Butter Braid/Cheesecake Sale to raise funds for our students' field trip fund.  Stop by the table in the narthex TODAY if you would like to order any of these delicious items!

November 4 Weekly News

A LETTER WAS RECEIVED this past week from Jacob Hercamp, our seminarian student at Fort Wayne, thanking the congregation for the many prayers on his behalf.  The letter is posted on the bulletin board in the front hall of school.  His school address is Box 150, 6600 N. TRINITY MUSICAL:  The drama department of Trinity Lutheran High School will present its fall musical, “Annie Get Your Gun,” this Thursday –Sunday, November 8-11, at 7 PM each evening, with an added performance at 3 PM next Sunday, November 11.  Tickets are $10/person and are available through the Trinity school office.

AN ALUMINUM CAN DRIVE will be held this coming Friday-Sunday, November 9-11.  A trailer will be parked on the church/school grounds to receive items.

 

ST. JOHN'S SAUERS will hold its annual Turkey & Ham Supper and Bazaar this evening from 4:00-7:00 PM.  A free-will offering will be received, and carry-out service is available.  Everyone invited.

 

EMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, DUDLEYTOWN, will sponsor its annual Harvest Festival next Sunday, November 11, from 3:30-7:00 PM.  Carry-out is available - a free-will offering will be received.  (A lift has been installed to make easier access to their lower level.)  Everyone invited.
