September 8 Weekly News


SUNDAY SCHOOL AND BIBLE CLASS will begin TODAY after worship.  The plan is to begin class15 minutes after church is over, (so no one needs to leave during the last hymn) with dismissal 1 hour later.  (Start/dismissal times will vary since the service is longer on Communion Sundays.)  Sunday School children and their parents are invited to come to the gym for the opening.  Bible Class will be held in the Fellowship Room.

 

BIBLE STUDIES: The Bible study, "Grace Upon Grace," will begin THIS EVENING from 6:30-8:00 PM in the Fellowship Room.  This study will be held on the second and fourth Sunday evenings of the month. (No babysitting.)  The Women's Bible Study at the parsonage will begin this Wednesday at 3:30 PM.  The Book of Luke will be studied.  Babysitting will be available.  (You do not have to have kids to come!)    Contact Emily Cook (447-8693) with any questions or to order materials.

 

SMORGASBORD SIGN-UPS are still going on in the narthex.  Especially needed are turkey bakers and noodle makers among various other jobs.  Please look over the needs and join in to help make this annual event another success! 

 

DONATIONS OF craft items and baked goods are needed for our upcoming bazaar/bake sale.  Items may be brought to the gym on the morning of the 21st.  Your support is appreciated!

 

BAZAAR BOOTH: A "2nd Time Around" booth will be set up at our annual Bazaar on Saturday, September 21.  Gently used items (NO clothing) will be offered at garage sale prices.  If you have any items you would like to donate (cleaning out drawers, closets?), please contact Kathryn Taulman (812-405-2774).  Please price your items before you give them to Kathryn.

 

THE ALUMINUM CAN DRIVE is still going on today.  A trailer is parked on the church/school grounds to receive items.  Thanks to all who support this project by our school's WCA.

 

SENIOR LEAGUE MEMBERS are reminded that they will meet for supper next Sunday evening, September 15, at Papa's Grill at West Hill at 5:30 PM and then return to the Fellowship Room for their monthly meeting and socializing.

 

CONGRATULATIONS TO Logan & Emila (Blomenberg) Fowler on the birth of their daughter, MARGERY ELISABETH, (Maggie) born Saturday, August 31.  Maggie arrived weighing 9 lbs. 4 ozs. and measuring 20 1/2 ins.  Everyone is doing fine - God's blessings to them!

 

ITALIAN, AMERICAN, BOTH! Come support the Lady Cougars at Trinity on September 19 and 24 and grab a scrumptious meal beforehand!  The English Expedition group will be providing lasagna, garlic bread, salad, and dessert on the 19th from 5-6:30 PM in Trinity's cafeteria.  Tickets are $6/adult and $3/child, 6 and under.  On the 24th, come early for a sloppy joe, chilidog, potato chips, and dessert from 5-7 PM.  Tickets are $5.  Buy tickets from any English Expedition member.

 

OPEN HOUSE:  Trinity invites students and their families to an open house on Saturday, September 28, from 8-10 AM.  All 7th and 8th grade students in attendance will receive one free admission to the Cougar Invitational Tournament scheduled for that same day.  Interested 8th grade students will also receive a $75 voucher that covers registration costs at Trinity for the 2014-2015 school year.  Please enter through the gymnasium.

 

THE ORPHAN GRAIN TRAIN will host a fundraiser on October 6, at 5:30 PM at the Clarion Hotel, Columbus.  A meal will be served at no charge, and all attendees are asked to support the work of the OGT.  The OGT Indiana branch operates completely with volunteers and gives all support to the poor and needy.  The program includes a speaker who serves about 100 Lutheran congregations in the Chicago area with a goal to help the needy and will also provide a presentation on the future of the OGT in Indiana since the present leader is retiring.  To receive more information or make reservations, please call 812-342-9101 or 812-372-6512.

 

THE WOMEN'S RETREAT will be held at Camp Lakeview on October 11-13 with special guest speaker, Brenda Jank.  To pamper you, the weekend includes an optional massage, manicure, craft sectionals, and a Saturday evening banquet.  For more information, pick up a brochure in the narthex or call the camp office at 812-342-4815.  Come away for some spiritual renewal.  Leave your worries behind and treat yourself to a weekend off!
