November 13 Weekly News


WE COME IN PRAYER:  Heavenly Father, as we gather in Your house, in the midst of trials and tribulation all around us, grant that we may assemble with repentant hearts that are prepared to receive the message of Your grace and mercy for the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ.  In His name we pray.  Amen.

 

TODAY’S ALTAR FLOWERS have been given by Vivian Luenebrink & family in loving remembrance of Jerry Luenebrink, who went to his heavenly home November 9, 2002.

 

CHRISTMAS PROGRAM PRACTICE:  Practice for the Children’s Christmas Eve program will be held every week during the Sunday School hour.  All children, preschool and older, are invited to participate and are encouraged to attend Sunday School weekly for the practices.

 

CHRISTMAS EVE PRE-SERVICE MUSIC:  Persons who would    like to share their musical talents by singing or playing an instrument are encouraged to participate in our Christmas Eve pre-service music  at 6:15 p.m.  Please contact Jessica Morphew (812-343-9110)             or Lorna Meyer (812-350-5768) or send an email to                          sundayschool@whitecreek.org.

 

THE SCHOOL FUNDING COMMITTEE (large group) will meet this evening at 6:00 p.m. to receive information and financial planning that has been developed to date.

 

GUILD will meet this Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Room.

 

BOARD OF EDUCATION will meet this Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

 

BOARD OF ELDERS will meet this Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. (after worship).

 

DECEMBER CALENDAR AND NEWS ITEMS need to be given to Becky by this Thursday.


 
SENIOR LEAGUE will meet next Sunday at 5:30 p.m. for supper and then return to the Fellowship Room for their monthly meeting and socializing.
 
YOUTH GROUPS will meet next Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m.
 
ADVENT BY CANDLELIGHT:  Reservations are needed for this  elegant, relaxing evening of friendship and preparation for the true meaning of Christmas, but the event is free.  The evening will include readings, a variety of music, and desserts.  Sign-up continues through Sunday, Nov. 20.  Hosts are also needed for the tables. If you would like to be a table host, please stop by and sign up on the volunteer sheet in the narthex.
 
NON-PERISHABLE FOOD ITEMS will be gathered and taken to the local food pantry.  Items may be brought to the narthex beginning next Sunday, November 20, through Thanksgiving Eve.
 
LUTHERAN WITNESS:  Persons who would like to order/renew their subscription to the Lutheran Witness should contact Becky by         today.  Cost is $18, and checks may be made payable to St. John’s.
LUTHERAN ANNUAL:  The 2017 Lutheran Annual is available to order – cost is $25.19 (checks payable to St. John’s).  Please contact Becky if you would like to order.
FINANCIAL UPDATE:  To match our 2015 offerings, we will need $16,285.27 per week.  To meet our 2016 budget, we will need $20,555.44 per week.  Please give this your prayerful consideration as we continue God’s work here at White Creek.
 
DEPOSITS OF $281.00 (church), $352.00 (Foundation), and $852.00 (school) have been deposited into those accounts on behalf of Thrivent Financial’s Thrivent Choice program by the directed Choice Dollars of the following: Ken & Kyra Bode, Dale & Bettie Burbrink, Janice Buss, Janice Claycamp, Kay Clow, Ernie & Donna Dettmer, Doyce & Becky Eckelman, Sharon Kinsey, Greg Meyer, Harriett Meyer, Lloyd & Jean Meyer, Laveena Rebber, Kristin Simons, Matt Taulman, and Jean Voelker.
 
VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED to serve on the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation committee to help plan activities for next year’s        observance of this milestone anniversary of the Reformation.  If you would like to be involved with this, please contact Janeen Blomenberg or Becky in the church office.
WCLS BUTTER BRAID SALE:  Our school’s Butter Braid Sale continues through TOMORROW.  See any WCLS student or order forms are available in the narthex and may be turned in to the office - a variety of sweet breads and cheesecakes is available!  Items will be ready for pick-up in our school gym on Wednesday, November 30, from 3:00-5:00 p.m.
 
DESSERT DASH:  Camp Lakeview is seeking homemade desserts to auction off during the dessert dash at its annual dinner/auction next Saturday, November 19.  Desserts need to feed at least 10 people (so it may take 2 pies to serve 10 people).  All donations are much appreciated!  Please contact Dave Vandercar (812-498-4742) if you would like to donate and plan on dropping off your dessert here in our Fellowship Room by noon Saturday.  Thanks so much for your support, and everyone looks forward to your delicious creations!
 
EMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, Dudleytown, will be holding their annual Harvest Festival Supper & Bazaar today from 3:30-7:00 p.m.  A free-will offering will be received for the meal, and baked goods and crafts will be available for purchase at the bazaar.  A lift provides easy access to the lower level of their fellowship hall, and a carry-out line is located on the main level.  Everyone is invited.
 
THE COUGAR DEN, Trinity Lutheran High School’s retail shop in Seymour, will be having their Christmas Open House this Thursday, November 17 – Saturday, November 19.  Stop by and shop for Christmas items.
