April 19 Weekly News

TODAY'S ALTAR FLOWERS have been given in thanksgiving and celebration of Joyce Meyer's birthday today by her children and grandchildren.  May God continue to bless you with many more years, Joyce!  Flowers have also been given by Terry, Ruth, and Betsy Schlehuser in loving memory of Alan as he celebrates his birthday in his heavenly home.

A SPECIAL SERVICE, Re-enactment Sunday, will be held next Sunday, April 24, as part of our 175th anniversary celebration.  This service will walk the congregation through our 175 year history.  The Children's Choir will lead the congregation in a German hymn, select members will help relive our history in special prayers, and some members will dress in period apparel.  Come and celebrate as we see that God's promise to us has been constant these 175 years!

PRAYER SERVICE:  As our congregation continues to stand against the attacks of Satan in these last days, it is vitally important for us to be a congregation at prayer.  Beginning Wednesday, April 29, Pastor Cook will be leading a brief prayer service immediately following the school's chapel service.  If you are unable to attend, would you please take time throughout the week to keep our membership in your prayers, specifically those inactive members that we are trying to reconnect with, and the financial situation of our church and school.  Above all, let us give thanks to God for all that He has blessed us with and ask Him to prosper the work of our hands (Ps. 90) as He strengthens our faith.

SENIOR LEAGUE MEMBERS will meet THIS EVENING at Bob Evans at 5:30 PM for supper and will then return to Lloyd & Jean's home to view the DVD of their Holy Land Tour, followed by playing cards and socializing.  Guests are always welcome!

MAY CALENDAR AND NEWS ITEMS need to be given to Becky by TOMORROW.

THE LADIES AID will meet this Wednesday at 9:00 AM for Bible study and their monthly meeting.  Mite boxes will be gathered.

CONGREGATIONAL HISTORY:  In August of 1856, Teacher Th. Gotsch arrived.  (Up until that time, the pastor took care of the school.)  Mr. Fred W. Meier approached all members about contributions for the new church building.  When results were not sufficient, Mr. Henry Schlehuser was sent around.  A little more than $2,500 dollars was raised.  The rest was borrowed, for the most part, from members.  The cost of the new church was $4,432.98.

LOOKING FOR CONFIRMATION PICTURES:  The following Confirmation class pictures are still needed: 2000, 2001, 1971, 1972, 1976, (professional pictures best) 1960, 1968, 1951, 1958, 1940, 1945, 1947, 1932, 1933, 1935, 1937, 1938, 1920, 1921, 1923, and all years prior to 1920 except 1918 and 1919.  The original picture is needed to make a good copy.  If you prefer not to leave your picture(s), Janeen Blomenberg will be available in the church office after church to scan your original picture so you can take it home again.
