September 14 Weekly News


TODAY'S ALTAR FLOWERS have been given by Kim Ross, Chris Newkirk, Joanie Otte, and Mindy Setser and their families in thanksgiving and celebration of the 50th wedding anniversary of Dennis & Joyce Meyer this coming Friday, September 19.  May God grant you many more happy years together, Dennis & Joyce!

 

SUNDAY SCHOOL AND BIBLE CLASS will begin TODAY after worship.  In preparation to celebrate our 175th anniversary in 2015, the Adult Bible Class will have a 7-week DVD course on the history of the Missouri Synod.  Come learn about our Lutheran heritage and commitment to being a Christ-centered and Bible-based denomination.  Join us in marveling at the courage of our forefathers and the abundant grace that God has given to our Synod!

 

SMORGASBORD/BAZAAR:  Our Annual Smorgasbord/Bazaar is coming up this Saturday evening, beginning at 4:30 PM.  Workers are still needed for Saturday morning, afternoon, and evening, and the following donations are still needed: 8 salads, 8 desserts, 2-10 lbs. of potatoes, peeled and cut up, 2 large cans of green beans, 4 gallons of sweet corn, and some tomatoes.  Don't forget that the "Second Time Around" table will again be featured at the Bazaar for good used items (no clothes, please), so keep that in mind when cleaning out those closets and drawers!

 

SENIOR LEAGUE will gather next Sunday evening at 5:30 PM at Bob Evans Restaurant for supper and then return to the Fellowship Room for their monthly meeting and socializing.

 

DEPOSITS OF $129.00 and $121.00 have been made to the church and school accounts on behalf of Thrivent Financial's Thrivent Choice Program by the directed Choice Dollars of the following:  Jan Buss, Dean & Clara Claycamp, Kay Clow, Abby Schroer, and Lindsey Von Fange.

 

CROSSLIFE MINISTRIES AUXILIARY will meet Monday, September 22, beginning at 7 PM at Zion Lutheran Church.  Members from Borchers Lutheran Church will also host the meeting.  Final plans for the Fall Luncheon and Bake Sale to be held on Friday, October 17, at Immanuel Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall will be discussed.  All are invited to enjoy the evening of fellowship and become more familiar with the ministry to individuals, marriages, and families throughout Jackson and Bartholomew counties.

 

ITALIAN DINNER:  The students and parents of St. Peter, Waymansville, Sprouts Preschool will be sponsoring an Italian Dinner on Friday, September 26, from 5:00-8:00 PM at St. Peter fellowship hall.  Proceeds will go to the Sprouts Scholarship Fund.  Everyone invited.

 

DINNER AUCTION:  "Growing in Christ" - That is the theme for the 10th Annual Camp Lakeview Dinner Auction that will be held Saturday, November 22, at the Clarion Hotel Crystal Ballroom in Columbus.  Tickets are $60 per person or $500 for a table of 10 if purchased before October 1.  Gather a group of friends and enjoy a fun-filled evening and be a part of the amazing growth the camp has seen over the last year.  All proceeds benefit God's work being done at Lakeview Ministries.  For more information, contact the camp office at 812-342-4815.

 

WALK FOR LIFE 2014:  The Pregnancy Care Center's 2014 Walk for Life, Be a Voice for the Voiceless, will be held next Saturday, September 20.  Registration begins at 9:30 AM, followed by the Walk at 10:30 AM.  Check in the church office if you would like to walk or make a donation to those walking.

 

CAMP LAKEVIEW will hold its annual Women's Retreat October 10-12.  The keynote speaker will be Jan Struck.  Come for a peaceful weekend of renewal through Christian fellowship, God's Word, and relaxation.  Also featured will be guest sectional leaders, recreation, crafts, a banquet, and more.  Cost is $85/person - $45 for commuters.  Call the camp office (812-342-4815) for reservations.

 

OPERATION UKRAINE, headquartered in Columbus, Mississippi, is gathering winter clothing to help more than 300,000 homeless people of the Ukraine face life in the cold northern country.  They have requested 6 or more semi trailer loads of winter clothing.  Clothing items needed are men's, women's, and children's winter coats and sweaters, caps, scarves, gloves, pants, long-sleeved shirts, shoes and boots, socks, blankets, and quilts.  (No summer clothes, please)  Items may be bought to the Orphan Grain Train Warehouse at Azalia.  Persons may call the warehouse at 812-579-6884 for more information.  The first shipment will be sent out on September 19.
