September 6 Weekly News


MANY THANKS TO Pastor Matt Jung for leading us in worship today while Pastor Cook is in Florida to unite Zach Smith and Rachel Terry in marriage today.  Pastor Jung will also be leading our worship this Wednesday evening.  Should an emergency arise this week, contact Becky, and she will make a pastoral contact.

 

TODAY'S ALTAR FLOWERS have been given by Ben & Joan Peters in thanksgiving for their many blessings and in celebration of their 25th wedding anniversary this Tuesday, September 8.  Many God grant you many more happy years together, Ben & Joan!

 

RESERVATION FORMS for the 175th Anniversary lunch on Celebration Sunday, September 27, are available in the narthex.  The meal (no charge) will be catered by The Rolling Pin, so it is very important to return this RSVP so that we have an accurate number to prepare for.  All reservations are due TODAY.

 

SUNDAY SCHOOL AND BIBLE CLASS will begin next Sunday, September 13, after the worship service.

 

THE CHURCH OFFICE will be closed tomorrow in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

 

THE GUILD will meet this Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM in the Fellowship Room.  Guests/new members are always welcome!

 

YOUTH GROUPS will meet next Sunday evening at 7:00 PM.

 

AN 8-WEEK BIBLE STUDY, led by Jean Jack, will begin this Wednesday, September 9, 5:00-6:00 PM, in the Fellowship Room.  "God Is in the Laundry Room" is based on Jeremiah 29:13 and inspires women to see the purpose and significance in every part of their daily life and to seek God in even the smallest tasks.  Contact Jean at 1-714-768-5731 to enroll.

 

ENGRAVED BRICKS for the walk and/or Memory Garden may be ordered through tomorrow - Labor Day.  Cost is $100/brick.  Contact Ernie & Donna Dettmer or Larry & Janice Claycamp if interested in placing an order.

 

CHURCH HISTORY:  The Ladies' Aid had 19 charter members.  Officers were:  President-Mrs. Ed Burbrink; Vice-president-Mrs. William Eckelman; Secretary-Mrs. Fred White; and Treasurer-Mrs. August Burbrink.  The other charter members included:  Mrs. Lena Burbrink, Hannah Burbrink, Mrs. Wm. Bode, Mrs. Fred Dose, Mrs. Elmer Eckelman, Sophia Hoevener, Mrs. Walter Horman, Mrs. John Mellencamp, Mrs. Wm. Meyer, Mrs. Herman Niemoeller, Mrs. Fred Peters, Mrs. Walter Schlehuser, Mrs. John Schlehuser,  Martha Schulenberg, and Mrs. Ed Schroer.

 

MARK YOUR CALENDARS:  Because of the planned anniversary catered lunch on our celebration Sunday, September 27, Sunday School will begin at 9:00 AM and Worship at 10:15 AM that Sunday.  This will make it more convenient for everyone as we celebrate our 175th Anniversary!

 

SMORGASBORD SIGN-UP SHEETS are available in the narthex today.  Our Annual Smorgasbord/Bazaar will be held on Saturday, September 19, with serving beginning at 4:30 PM.  Please take this opportunity to sign up for food donations and to volunteer to work with your church family.  Questions???  Contact Annette Purdue at (812) 343-9149.

 

ITEMS NEEDED for our upcoming Bazaar on September 19 include gently used items for the Second Time Around table (NO clothes - please indicate whether you would like the item back if it doesn't sell), handmade crafts, and homemade baked items.  Children and adult books sell very well. The gently used items and crafts may be brought to the gym on Friday, September 18, and baked goods on the morning of the Bazaar.  Please price all items.  Questions???  Contact Jean Voelker (812-522-8168).

ALL LADIES ARE INVITED TO ATTEND the LWML Fall Rally on Saturday, September 19, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 1/4 mile north of Bean Blossom.  Registration and breakfast begin at 8:30 a.m., followed by the meeting and guest speaker, DCE Sheila Thomack.  The Rally will conclude with a lunch served at noon.
