February 2 Weekly News


TODAY'S ALTAR FLOWERS have been given in thanksgiving of the 50th Confirmation anniversary of the Class of 1964.  The following were confirmed on February 2, 1964, by Pastor William Gramlich:  Sue (Condra) Barkes, Ellen (Dettmer) Dunn, James Dettmer, Rhonda (Eckelman) Dunn, Cheryl Heckman, Becky (Kerkhof) Eckelman, Glen Meyer, Diane (Peters) Kerkhof, Donn Schlehuser,  Roleen (Schlehuser) Rothert, Donald Schroer, Brenda (Shasteen) Fetter, Debbie (Wichman) Finkle.

 

THERE WILL BE NO Youth meetings or Phil's Friends card-making this evening.  Phil's Friends and Youth will be held on Sunday, February 16, at 6:00 and 7:00 PM.

 

FINANCIAL PEACE UNIVERSITY will be offered at St. John's, White Creek, beginning THIS AFTERNOON at 2:00 PM.  This class will run for 9 weeks with allowances for Spring Break.  This class will empower you with practical skills to beat debt and to build wealth.  You can take control of your money no matter how busy your schedule is.  Sign up by going online to www.daveramsey.com/fpu.

 

OPEN HOUSE:  Our school will be holding its annual Open House this Friday, February 7, from 8:30 AM-2:30 PM.  Interested persons are invited to come in and visit our classrooms.  Teachers will be available between instruction times to answer any questions.  Enrollment for the 2014-2015 school year will open to the public that day.  (Snow date will be Monday, Feb.10, same times.)

 

THE YOUTH will be providing Valentines Date Night babysitting for children through 5th grade on Friday, February 14, from 6:00-10:00 PM.  Bring your children to our school gym and enjoy a night out!  A free-will donation will be accepted.  Snacks (not a meal) will be provided.

 

BUILDING PROJECT UPDATE:  Members of the building committee visited the Wurster Construction facility and a number of their construction sites in November.  Members were impressed by what they observed.  Building plans were completed as of January 3rd.  The committee is currently awaiting final sub-contractor bids with effort being made to employ local companies.  Wurster has guaranteed staying within their initial bid for the original project.  Any additions/changes would be negotiated.  Construction is presently on track to begin the third week of March with completion the end of June.  Background checks (for the safety of the children) will be completed on all workers before being allowed on site.  Plans will be presented to the Bartholomew Co. Planning Commission February 24th.

 

VOLUNTEER TRAINING:  The Pregnancy Care Center will offer volunteer training Monday, March 3, to cover the history and vision of the PCC, and five additional sessions to cover communication techniques, pregnancy options counseling guidelines, role playing, etc. Wednesday and Thursday evenings, March 5-March 13, from 6:00-9:00 PM.  For more information, contact Christy Shaw at 812-378-4114 or christys@affirminglifeonline.org.

 

ASSET AUCTION:  Trinity Lutheran High School will hold an Asset Auction for the general public on Saturday, March 29, at the Betty Shepman farm on Hwy 50 in Seymour across from Applebee's.  The auction will begin at 9:00 AM with auctioneer Fred Pollert, of Pollert's, Inc., and food will be served throughout the day.  The Asset Auction effort is called "Renew Their Strength" with all proceeds raised at the auction being applied towards the debt on the original school loan for Trinity.  If you would like to learn more about this auction and would possible be interested in donating to it, please contact our Asset Auctions volunteer, Keith Mensendiek  (342-4981), Asset Auction co-chairs, John & Pam Fox (342-1323), or Trinity's Development Director, Michael Bridges (812-343-3352).
