"Blessed are those who hear the Word and keep it." Luke 11:28

It is easy to hear only law in this passage.  As if Jesus were saying, obey, obey, OBEY you sinner,
otherwise you have no part with me.

But He --the one who came not to abolish the law but to fulfill it--
gives this Word and all of His Words to us as a gift.

Keep my Word, my child. Treasure it. Carry it with you.  Receive from it life and hope and health.
Make your home in it.  Steep in it.  Let it color your world.  Let it remake your heart.

March 29 Weekly News

TODAY'S ALTAR FLOWERS have been given to the glory of God by the confirmands.

THIS WEEK'S HOLY WEEK WORSHIP continues Maundy Thursday at 7 PM with Holy Communion.  Good Friday worship will also be at 7 PM.  Easter Sunday sunrise worship will begin at 8 AM, followed by the Easter breakfast.  Sunday School will begin at 9 AM, and the Easter celebration worship with Holy Communion will begin at 10:15 AM.

APRIL CALENDAR AND NEWS will be available from the ushers after today's worship.

ALTAR FLOWERS:  Persons who would like to put lilies/spring flowers on the altar or in the narthex for Easter need to contact Karen Schlehuser (812-342-6140) by TODAY.  Flowers may be purchased individually or ordered through Karen.

THE CHURCH COUNCIL will meet this Wednesday evening at 7 PM.  All council members are urged to attend. (No Wednesday evening worship due to Holy Week.)

CONGREGATIONAL HISTORY:  In January of 1851, Rev. R. Klinkenberg was called to St. John's.  That same year the congregation decided to build a new parsonage.  Due to general dissatisfaction, 12 members, together with their families, withdrew and organized a congregation of their own, (known today as The White Creek Methodist Church).  In spite of this withdrawal, St. John's still numbered 32 voting members.

LOOKING FOR CONFIRMATION PICTURES:  The following Confirmation class pictures are still needed: 2000, 2001, 2006, 2009, 2010, 1993, 1971, 1972, 1976, (all pictures from the 1970s that have been turned in have problems with the colors changing, so those pictures taken by a professional photographer are needed) 1960, 1968, 1969, 1951, 1958.  The original picture is needed to make a good copy.  If you prefer not to leave your picture(s), Janeen Blomenberg will be available in the church office after church to scan your original picture so you can take it home again.

RE-ENACTMENT SUNDAY:  On Sunday, April 26, the 175th Anniversary Committee will be hosting a re-enactment church service.  In preparation, we would like to borrow any period clothing which would be worn at this service.  Needed are clothes for the time periods of the 1860s, 1900s, 1940s, and 1960s.  If you can help out with any clothes, or if you are interested in having a role in the re-enactment, please notify Phil Burbrink at 812-334-9946 or philburbrink@gmail.com.

ZION LUTHERAN PRESCHOOL is now accepting enrollment for the 2015-2016 school year for 2-4 year-old children.  Contact the Zion office at 812-522-5911.

THE QUARTERLY VOTERS' MEETING will be held on Sunday evening, April 12, at 7:00 PM.  This is one week later than usual, due to Easter on April 5.

FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE:  Three fluorescent 8-foot light fixtures are available for the taking.  See Fred Condra if interested.
