November 22 Weekly News


PRACTICE FOR THE Children’s Christmas Eve program continues during the Sunday School opening time.  Please make every effort to attend these practices.

THE ADULT BIBLE CLASS has begun the Bible study, God’s Trustees, which covers managing all of life and life’s resources for God’s purposes.  This class meets in the Fellowship Room and  has both large and small group discussions.  New members are welcome to join at any time!

TO HELP OUR SUNDAY SCHEDULE, Sunday School and Bible Class will begin at 10:00 AM on non-communion Sundays (2nd, 4th and 5th Sundays) and 10:15 AM on communion Sundays (1st and 3rd Sundays).  Please pass this on to any families, friends, and neighbors who may not be here today.  (Next Sunday, 5th Sunday, so 10:00 AM) 

LUTHERAN WITNESS:  It’s time to order/renew subscriptions to The Lutheran Witness, the official periodical of our Synod, featuring news from our Synod and District, informative articles, and Bible studies.  The annual price remains at $18.00.  Please contact Becky by TODAY if you would like to order.  Checks may be made payable to St. John’s Lutheran Church.

THE CHURCH COUNCIL will meet this evening at 7:00 PM.  All council members are urged to attend.

OUR THANKSGIVING EVE WORSHIP with Holy Communion will be held this Wednesday evening, November 25, at 7:00 PM. Pastor Jung will be leading our worship.  Non-perishable food items will be received to be delivered to the local food pantry.

A SPECIAL 175TH ANNIVERSARY ADVENT SERVICE during our regular worship time (8:45) will be held next Sunday, November 29. Come and worship as we celebrate our 175th Christmas as a congregation!

ADVENT BY CANDLELIGHT:  Sign-ups are still going on today in the narthex for this special evening to be held next Sunday evening, November 29, at 6:30 PM. The evening will include readings, a variety of music, and desserts.  Reservations are needed, but the event is free.  Donations will be received for the Warm Feet, Warm Hand” boot drive to support the Wheeler Mission in Bloomington.

THE NEXT SCHOOL FUNDING MEETING will be held Monday, November 30, at 6:30 PM in the Fellowship Room.  If congregation members have questions concerning the work being done by the school funding committee, please do not hesitate to contact Phil Burbrink or Janeen Blomenberg.

MIDWEEK ADVENT SERVICES will be held on Wednesday evenings, December 2, 9, and 16, at 7:00 PM.  Pastor Jung will be leading these worships.  Be sure to take a look at today’s insert for a preview of the sermon titles for this Advent series.  Supper will be served before each service, beginning at 5:45 PM.

THE DECEMBER VOTERS’ MEETING will be held Sunday, December 6, at 7:00 PM.  Approving the 2016 nominations for church offices will be among the business discussed.  All confirmed members, 18 years and older, are encouraged to attend.

CHRISTMAS EVE PRE-SERVICE MUSIC:  If you would like to participate in the pre-service music Christmas Eve (6:00-6:30 PM), please contact Lori Hill (812-350-1474) as soon as possible.

TRINITY DUES:  If you have not yet paid your Trinity dues ($16/confirmed member), please do so as soon as possible.  A special envelope is provided in your offering box.

IF YOU WOULD like to receive an emailed copy of the school board minutes, please contact Mrs. Buss.  If you do not have email access, but would like to read the minutes, Mrs. Buss will be happy to get you a hard copy.  (Copies available upon request to save printing costs.)

IN AN EFFORT to improve communication between the congregation and the Board of Education, a suggestion box has been placed in the narthex.  If you have questions, comments, or suggestions, please place them in the box.  Those will be reviewed by the Board before each scheduled meeting.

175TH ANNIVERSARY ORNAMENTS 
are still available for purchase - $12/ornament.  See Becky in the church office if you would like to make a purchase.
CHURCH HISTORY:  In 1936, the volunteers to pump air for the organ were:  Omer Dettmer, Walter Horman, Elmer Eckelman, and Clarence Beckemeyer.  In 1939, it was passed to get 12 volunteer organ pumpers:  George Meyer, Martin Meyer, Ralph Peters, Earl Bode, Henry Dettmer, Martin Hoffman, Willard Hoffman, Walter Schlehuser, Edwin Dettmer, Martin Burbrink, Franklin Luenebrink, and Jacob Noblitt.
CONGRATULATIONS TO Brian & Linda Jo Hauersperger on the birth of their son, LUKE TYLER HAUERSPERGER, this past Wednesday. Luke arrived weighing 8 lbs. 8 ozs. and measuring 20.5 ins.  Everyone is doing fine.  God’s blessings to them all!

STEEL TOE BOOTS, gently used and new, sizes 9-15, snow boots, and cash donations are being accepted for the Warm Feet, Warm Hand boot drive in support of the Wheeler Mission Ministries Training Center in Bloomington.  Donations may be brought to the church office by next Sunday, November 29.
TRINITY CRAFT FAIR:  The 13th Annual Trinity Lutheran Winter Wonderland Craft Fair will be held next Saturday, November 28, from 9:00 AM-2:00 PM at Trinity.  There will be over 65 booths (21 new vendors!) this year, concessions, and a bake sale.  Come and get some unique gifts!
A LARGE QUANTITY of crochet thread and yarn has been donated to the Ladies Aid.  If you have need and could use some, please contact Jean Voelker (812-522-8168).
THE CHURCH OFFICE HOURS will be flexible this week, due to the Thanksgiving break.  If you need to come in to the office, please call ahead to make sure someone is there.
