April 9 Weekly News

SUNDAY SCHOOL/BIBLE CLASS will not be held after worship today.  Please note that no classes will be held next Sunday, Easter Sunday, April 16; however, Easter fun for the children will be held after the Easter breakfast.

THIS WEEK’S HOLY WEEK WORSHIP will include the Maundy Thursday worship with Holy Communion at 7:00 p.m. and the Good Friday Tenebrae Service at 7:00 p.m.  Next Sunday, Easter Sunday, will begin with Sunrise Worship with Holy Communion at 7:30 a.m., followed by the Easter breakfast served by our youth (everyone invited!) and Easter fun activities for the children.  The Easter Celebration Worship with Holy Communion will begin at 10:00 a.m.  (Please note: NO Wednesday evening worship this week and the Wednesday after Easter, April 19.)

TODAY’S ALTAR FLOWERS have been given by the confirmands to the glory of God in thanksgiving and celebration of this special day in their lives.

THERE IS A SIGN-UP SHEET in the narthex for anyone who is interested in learning about what it means to reach out to inactive members of our congregation.  The training focuses primarily on how to go about having conversations with those who have not been attending for one reason or another.  Hope to see you at the training as we continue to support one another in the blessed Gospel of our Lord.

ADULT BIBLE STUDY:  Who are the Mormons?  What do they believe?  How do we talk to them and share the message of Jesus?  Beginning April 23, Pastor Whitmore will be leading a study that will focus on these questions and more.  This study is based on a video series that was put out by the Lutheran Hour.  Everyone is welcome!

ALTAR FLOWERS:  If you would like to place Easter lilies/Spring flowers on the altar/in the narthex for Easter, please contact Karen Schlehuser by TOMORROW.  Lilies may be ordered through Karen or purchased individually.  (Spring flowers purchased on your own.)

THIS WEDNESDAY, April 12, organist, Dr. John G. Simpson, will present the Noontime Lenten Recital at Sandy Hook United Methodist Church, 1610 Taylor Rd, Columbus.  Everyone is cordially invited.  Admission is free.

THE MITE BOX is in the narthex to receive LWML mite offerings.  Mite boxes are also available for your home collection.

THE COLUMBUS ZONE LWML SPRING RALLY will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Franklin, on Saturday, April 22.  Registration/light breakfast will begin at 9:00 AM. ($5 for registration), with opening devotions at 9:30 a.m.  The program will be a Holy Land Tour by Jon & Sharon Clark from Good Shepherd.  The business meeting and Mediterranean style luncheon will follow.  All ladies of the congregation are invited to attend.

WCLS is currently sponsoring its annual spring flower basket sale.  Various types/colors of hanging flowers are available for $20 (from Whipker’s Market).  See any WCLS student to order, or orders may be placed through the church/school office.  Orders with payments are due by TOMORROW.

A PROGRESSIVE EUCHRE TOURNAMENT will be held Saturday, April 29, from 1:00-3:30 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Seymour.  Cost is $10/person.  Snacks will be provided, and prizes will be awarded.  Bake sale items will also be available for some take home goodies.  Proceeds will go toward the youth group’s summer servant event in Idaho.  If you have any questions or would like to RSVP, please call 812-522-1089 or email 4probstfamily@gmail.com by Sunday, April 23.

LUTHERAN CENTRAL SCHOOL, Brownstown, has the following positions available for the 2017-2018 school year:
*Middle school language arts teacher – A job description is available upon request.  Potential candidates must hold or be eligible to apply for a valid Indiana teaching license.  Interested individuals should submit a current resume to the school office located at 415 N. *School custodian – The tentative start date for this position would be August 1, 2017.  This is a part-time position consisting of 25-30 hours per week.  Job requirements include the daily cleaning of the school, annual waxing of the floors, some light maintenance, and other duties as assigned by the principal or Board of Education.  Interested individuals should submit a current resume to the school office located at 415 N.
