October 25 Weekly News

WE WELCOME Pastor Matt Jung and thank him for leading us in worship this morning.  Pastor Jung will also be leading this Wednesday evening’s 7 PM worship and the next two weeks of worship services.

NOVEMBER CALENDAR AND NEWS will be available from the ushers after today’s worship.

LADIES AID MEMBERS are reminded of their meeting this Wednesday at 9:00 AM.  Please bring needles along as hemming will be done on Sharon’s quilts after the meeting.  Also, don’t forget your Mite Boxes!  Visitors are always welcome!

MITE BOXES:  Mites are being gathered this month, so please bring in your mite donations.  They may be put into the large Mite Box in the narthex or given to any Ladies Aid member.  The small mite boxes are also available for those who would like to save loose change for this part of the LWML ministry.  The next gathering will be in February.

A SCHOOL FUNDING COMMITTEE MEETING will be held this Thursday, October 29, at 6:30 PM in the Fellowship Room.

ADVENT BY CANDLELIGHT:  This special evening will be an opportunity for adults (confirmed and older) of the congregation to set aside the hustle and bustle of holiday preparations and focus on the birth of Christ.  It will be held on Sunday, November 29, at 6:30 PM.  The evening will include readings, a variety of music, and desserts.  This will be an elegant, relaxing evening of friendship and preparation for the true meaning of Christmas.  Reservations are needed, but the event is free.  Sign-up will be held beginning next Sunday, Nov. 1, and continuing through Sunday, Nov. 22.

HOSTESS OPPORTUNITIES:
Want to ensure you have a seat at this year’s Advent By Candlelight?  Volunteer to be a table hostess, and we will reserve a chair for you!

Hostesses provide table settings, holiday decorations, candles, and a dessert for a  table of 8-10 people.  Many partner with one or two to host a table.  It is lots of fun, and requires only a few hours of your time for planning, baking (or buying) and decorating.  If you would like to host a table this year (or need more information before committing), please call or email Lindsay Paluch at 213-750-1256 or lpaluch@whitecreek.org.

CHURCH HISTORY:  In 1936, the congregation decided to join the Rural Electrification Project.  In 1938, the church property was signed up with Bartholomew County REMC.  Walter Burbrink was authorized by the congregation to see that the church’s property be properly wired so that it would pass state inspection.

2015 PLEDGES for our school expansion are due by October 31.  The updated current balance yet outstanding is $215,000.

EYEGLASSES NEEDED:  MOST Ministries will be taking a Mission Trip to Nicaragua next June.  The people there have a great need for eyeglasses - adult, children, non-prescription sunglasses, and over-the-counter reading glasses.  Glasses cases would also be appreciated.  A box will be in the narthex through next Sunday for this collection.  After that, see Jean Voelker if you have any of these items, and she will pass them along to someone going on this trip.  Your donations will bring sight!

A VERY GENEROUS DONOR has responded for the third year and is offering a matching challenge of $100,000 for gifts given to the Orphan Grain Train by November 30.  Every gift, be it $10 or $10,000, will count toward this $100,000 challenge.  The Orphan Grain Train will use each gift as effectively as possible, with only 3% of what is given going for administration and fund-raising.  All donations may be mailed to:  Orphan Grain Train, P.O. Box 1466, Norfolk, NE  68702-9915.  Gifts must be given by November 30 to count toward this $100,000 matching challenge.
