February 15 Weekly News


THE SEASON OF LENT begins with Ash Wednesday this week.  Our worship will begin at 7 PM and will include the Imposition of Ashes.  Please note that NO SUPPER will be served before the service this week.  (Suppers will be served before the service on Feb. 25, Mar. 4, and Mar. 11.)

 

THE 175TH ANNIVERSARY CALENDARS will be available again today after worship in the front hall of the school if you did not get one last Sunday.  Each household will receive one complimentary copy.  Additional copies may be purchased for $10/calendar.

 

CONGREGATIONAL HISTORY:  Members of the congregation knew a Pastor Schuerman from Germany who was then in Hunteburg, Indiana (near present day Batesville).  Mr. D. Pardieck went to him for information about obtaining a truly Lutheran pastor.

 

MARCH CALENDAR AND NEWS ITEMS need to be given to Becky by TOMORROW.

 

THE ALUMINUM CAN DRIVE continues yet today.  The trailer is parked on the west side of church to receive items.

 

TRINITY OPEN HOUSE: Trinity Lutheran High School invites students and their families to its final open house this afternoon from 2:00-4:00 PM.  All interested eighth grade students will  receive a $75 voucher that covers half of the registration costs at Trinity for the 2015-2016 school year.  Please enter through the commons.

 

SENIOR LEAGUE MEMBERS will meet for supper this evening, at 5:30 PM at Bob Evans Restaurant and will then return to the Fellowship Room for their monthly meeting and socializing.  Visitors are always welcome!

 

THE BOARD OF EDUCATION will meet next Sunday after Sunday School and Bible Class. 

 

CONFIRMATION CLASS PICTURES are needed for our upcoming Confirmation Class Roll Call Sunday on June 28.  If you have ANY St. John's Confirmation class pictures, please contact Jean Meyer at 812-343-2361.  These pictures will be copied and returned to their owners and will become a permanent record of our church.

 

THE LLL SPRING BANQUET will be held on Sunday, March 8, at 5:30 PM at the Immanuel Social Room, Seymour.  Tickets ($15.00) are available in our church office or from Keith Mensendiek.  Guest speaker will be Rev. Gene Ernst, Manager of the Indiana Orphan Grain Train.

MEMORIAL CHILI SUPPER:  The Columbus FFA Chapter will sponsor the Annual Frank Burbrink Memorial Chili Supper on Friday, February 20, from 5:00-8:00 PM in the Family Arts Building at the Bartholomew County Fairgrounds.  There will also be a silent auction with items that were generously donated from businesses in the community.  Free-will donations will be received for the supper.  All proceeds will go toward scholarships for the Columbus FFA seniors.
