July 22 Weekly News

TODAY'S ALTAR FLOWERS have been given to the glory of God and in celebration of the 50th wedding anniversary of Lester & Shirley Enzinger TODAY by their children and grandchildren, Tim & Luanne Bryant, Rex. Kim, Erin and Samantha Enzinger, and Tom, Nancy, and Lance Kitterman.

THE BOARD OF EDUCATION will meet TODAY after worship.

AUGUST CALENDAR AND NEWS ITEMS need to be submitted to Becky by TOMORROW.

LADIES AID MEMBERS are reminded of their workday and meeting this Wednesday, beginning at 9 AM.  Mite boxes will be collected.

HELPERS ARE NEEDED this coming Saturday, July 28,for various cleaning and repair jobs that are needed to be done around the church grounds.  Please bring paintbrushes, paint cups, sandpaper, brooms, and shovels.  Work will begin around 8 AM.

 

CHURCH PICNIC:  Everyone is invited to our 3^rd annual church picnic to be held on Sunday, August 5, after worship.  Bring your most comfortable lawn chair and come out and enjoy lunch and fun activities with your church family!  We would again like to display quilts, antiques, collectibles, St. John's memorabilia, hobbies, tractors, trucks, cars, etc., so gather your things together and bring them out that day!  Any canopies to use for shade would be appreciated!   A hot dog lunch will be served, along with popsicles and pie and ice cream during the afternoon.  Pie donations are needed - please contact Becky if you would be willing to bake a pie (no contest this year - just to be enjoyed!)  Also, lots of fun activities!  Watch the weekly bulletin for more details...

BIBLE STUDY:  Do you know why in the Lutheran Church we have two Sacraments, not seven as in the Roman Catholic Church or none, as in some Protestant Churches?  We shall discuss that as Pastor Brandt starts another Bible Study on Thursday, August 16, in the Fellowship Room, if God be willing.  Call Becky in the church office (342-3516) to enroll.

A HOG ROAST/AUCTION will be held next Sunday afternoon, July 29, from 2:00-6:00 PM at the Bartholomew County Fairgrounds Community Building, with all proceeds going to Derek & Kristie Wessel.  Dessert donations are being sought.  If you would be able to donate a dessert, please contact Tracey Engelau (812-498-4025), Shelly Burns (812-374-8240), or Jenni Acton (812-343-8988).

LWML MISSION MOMENTS:  154 delegates awarded $120,000 in mission grants at the LWML convention in June.  Worship for Shut-ins received $12,000. The mission of “Worship for Shut-ins” is Sharing Christ’s Love through Ministry and Media. Worship for Shut-ins ministers not only to homebound and infirmed but also to those who may not know Jesus as their Savior.  Many of its viewers are on limited incomes; therefore, it takes outside sources to support this ministry costing $1,760 weekly on ten (10) Indiana television stations and DIRECTV throughout Indiana. The $12,000grant will enable the ministry to continue reaching out to homebound, un-churched, infirmed and incarcerated through the TV ministry of “Worship for Shut-ins”.    “Worship for Shut-ins” may be viewed locally every Sunday morning on channel 40 at 10:00 a.m. or on Directv.

He is in the hospital on a ventilator, and his health is failing.

May God hold him close, along with the Owens family.

July 15 Weekly News

SENIOR LEAGUE MEMBERS will gather this evening at 5:30 PM at Bob Evans for supper and then return to the Fellowship Room for their monthly meeting and socializing.

STUDENTS ATTENDING TRINITY this coming fall are reminded to submit their application form for the Ladies Aid scholarship to the church office by TODAY.  These forms were mailed out in early June.

MISSION TRIP: Sam Setty, son of Richelle Bushur, attends Lutheran High School in Indianapolis and will leave on July 22 to participate in a mission trip to New Orleans to help rebuild homes that are still uninhabitable after hurricane Katrina.  If you would like to make a donation to Sam to help cover his expenses, please make a check payable to him and mail it to 130 Pine St., Indianapolis, IN  46227.

CONGRATULATIONS TO Matt & Amanda Hunter on the birth of their son, LIAM MICHAEL, this past Wednesday.  Liam arrived weighing 7 lbs. 11 ozs. and measuring 19 1/2 inches.  God's blessings to all of you!

DEPOSITS OF $30 and $83 have been deposited to the church and school accounts, respectively, on behalf of the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans' Thrivent Choice (R) program.  Members who directed their dollars for this include: Mildred Behrman, Brian Purdue, Ken Bode, Philip Burbrink, Jack Dunn, Mike Mensendiek, Greg Meyer, Kathy Sanders, and Joan Schlehuser.                                    

LWML MISSION MOMENTS:  154 delegates awarded $120,000 in mission grants at the LWML convention in June.  Orphan Grain Train received $12,000 – Most of us are familiar with the work of the Orphan Grain Train.   This grant money will be used to purchase a truck to enable this humanitarian project to continue reaching people with donations of all kinds.

LWML MISSION MOMENTS:  154 delegates awarded $120,000 in mission grants at the LWML convention in June.  Lutheran Military Veterans and Families Ministries received $12,000. Hundreds of thousands of veterans and their families from wars both past and most recent are struggling with spiritual questions, mental, emotional and physical health issues.  The rate of suicide, substance abuse, domestic violence and child abuse has increased among veterans and their families.  The LMVFM offers specialized ministry to meet these unique needs of military veterans and their families through the love of Jesus.  Government agencies charged with providing care to veterans and their families are restricted from treating or addressing the spiritual wounds of war.  The care and services offered to veterans and their families cover only those who meet a set of restrictive guidelines, thus leaving a large number of veterans without any care, services or benefits.  LMVFM assists all who have served our country by offering Christ’s care and assistance to those who have not only suffered physical, emotional, physical and relational wounds, but the spiritual wounds which separate man from God.  LMVFM seeks to support, educate, and equip clergy, Stephen ministers, congregations and counselors with knowledge and tools they will need to effectively work with veterans and their families, thus enabling them to demonstrate Christ’s love and show His compassion to those who have bravely served their country.

LCH “NEEDS YOU” for our Lutheran Community Home quarterly “DINING ROOM BONUS BUCK SALE”, on Friday, July 13 @ 2:00pm.   This is like a big yard sale for our residents to buy things with their “Bonus Bucks”.  Bonus Bucks are earned by attending group activities.  We are reaching out to our churches to help with our sale Items needed:  baked goods, cookies and other snacks, candy (regular or sugar free) or anything you would like to donate for the sale. Father, hold our sister Clara close to you through her surgery today! Bless the doctors and nurses with wisdom and skill as they care for her, and grant her a speedy recovery according to Your gracious will. Keep her safe in Your grace, Father, in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Tim Hoene had another heart attack tonight.

He had a heart cath which went well (they did the ballooning procedure).

He’ll be in the hospital for a few days. Please pray for him as he recovers!
