November 1 Weekly News


PASTORAL CARE needs and emergencies will be responded to by Pastor Jung (812-764-8664) and Pastor Bauman Wednesday, November 4 through Wednesday, November 11.  Pastor Keinath will be serving another Midwest District in reconciliation work.

 

YOUTH GROUPS will meet this evening at 7 PM.

 

ADVENT BY CANDLELIGHT:  Make your reservations now!  Invite your family members, friends, and neighbors for a Christ-centered preparation for the holiday season on Sunday, November 29, at 6:30 PM.  The evening will include readings, a variety of music, and desserts.  There is no charge for this event; however, we will be collecting monetary donations to support Warm Feet, Warm Hearts.  Space is limited.  We recommend that you make your reservations early. OUR THANKSGIVING EVE WORSHIP with Holy Communion will be held Wednesday evening, November 25, at 7:00 PM. Pastor Jung will be leading our worship.  Non-perishable food items will be received to be delivered to the local food pantry.

 

THE CHURCH COUNCIL will meet Sunday evening, November 22, at 7:00 PM.  All council members are urged to attend.

 

CHURCH HISTORY:  In 1939, a Furnace Fund was established.  It was decided that every voting member would pay $5 into a furnace fund if their yearly contribution for home purposes was $10 or less and 50% of their yearly contribution provided they paid over $10 yearly for home purposes.  Alfred Burbrink was elected as treasurer of the Furnace Fund.

AN ALUMINUM CAN DRIVE will be held this coming weekend, November 6-8.  A trailer will be parked on the church/school grounds to receive items.  This project is sponsored by our school’s parent organization, the WCA.

 

BUTTER BRAID/CHEESECAKE SALE:  Orders are now being taken for a variety of sweet breads and cheesecakes.  See any WCLS student or order through the school office by Wednesday, November 11.  Items will be delivered in early December.  Proceeds will go to provide special activities for our students.

 

WCLS BASKET BINGO NIGHT will be held Friday evening, November 13.  Doors will open at 5:30 PM with bingo starting at 6:30 PM.  Tickets ($20) are available from any WCLS student or the school office.  Proceeds go to the students’ Chicago Trip Fund.

 

AS HER HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR PROJECT, Sydney Morey will be making blankets for Phil’s Friends, a Christ-centered non-profit organization that brings hope to cancer patients. Phil’s Friends sends care packages and cards to cancer patients and makes visits to them.  Sydney will be collecting fleece material – 1 yd x 1 yd – to achieve her goal of 100 blankets.  If you would like to donate fleece to Sydney, you may bring it to the collection tote in the narthex.  Questions???  Contact Sydney at 812-344-5872.

October 25 Weekly News


WE WELCOME Pastor Matt Jung and thank him for leading us in worship this morning.  Pastor Jung will also be leading this Wednesday evening’s 7 PM worship and the next two weeks of worship services.

 

NOVEMBER CALENDAR AND NEWS will be available from the ushers after today’s worship.

 

LADIES AID MEMBERS are reminded of their meeting this Wednesday at 9:00 AM.  Please bring needles along as hemming will be done on Sharon’s quilts after the meeting.  Also, don’t forget your Mite Boxes!  Visitors are always welcome!

 

MITE BOXES:  Mites are being gathered this month, so please bring in your mite donations.  They may be put into the large Mite Box in the narthex or given to any Ladies Aid member.  The small mite boxes are also available for those who would like to save loose change for this part of the LWML ministry.  The next gathering will be in February.

 

A SCHOOL FUNDING COMMITTEE MEETING will be held this Thursday, October 29, at 6:30 PM in the Fellowship Room.

HOSTESS OPPORTUNITIES: 
Want to ensure you have a seat at this year’s Advent By Candlelight?  Volunteer to be a table hostess, and we will reserve a chair for you!
 
Hostesses provide table settings, holiday decorations, candles, and a dessert for a  table of 8-10 people.  Many partner with one or two to host a table.  It is lots of fun, and requires only a few hours of your time for planning, baking (or buying) and decorating.  If you would like to host a table this year (or need more information before committing), please call or email Lindsay Paluch at 213-750-1256 or lpaluch@whitecreek.org.

 

CHURCH HISTORY:  In 1936, the congregation decided to join the Rural Electrification Project.  In 1938, the church property was signed up with Bartholomew County REMC.  Walter Burbrink was authorized by the congregation to see that the church’s property be properly wired so that it would pass state inspection.

 

2015 PLEDGES for our school expansion are due by October 31.  The updated current balance yet outstanding is $215,000.

 

EYEGLASSES NEEDED:  MOST Ministries will be taking a Mission Trip to Nicaragua next June.  The people there have a great need for eyeglasses - adult, children, non-prescription sunglasses, and over-the-counter reading glasses.  Glasses cases would also be appreciated.  A box will be in the narthex through next Sunday for this collection.  After that, see Jean Voelker if you have any of these items, and she will pass them along to someone going on this trip.  Your donations will bring sight!

 

A VERY GENEROUS DONOR has responded for the third year and is offering a matching challenge of $100,000 for gifts given to the Orphan Grain Train by November 30.  Every gift, be it $10 or $10,000, will count toward this $100,000 challenge.  The Orphan Grain Train will use each gift as effectively as possible, with only 3% of what is given going for administration and fund-raising.  All donations may be mailed to:  Orphan Grain Train, P.O. Box 1466, Norfolk, NE  68702-9915.  Gifts must be given by November 30 to count toward this $100,000 matching challenge.

CHURCH HISTORY:  In November of 1935, it was voted to look into purchasing new pews.  The old pews were shorter because of the placement of the pot belly stoves and the pipes extending from them.  There were no pews that went from aisle to window.  The old pews had center dividers that extended from the ceiling to the top of the pew.  These pews had straight seats and straight backs.  They were hard and uncomfortable!

THE PREGNANCY CARE CENTER will be offering a Ministry Orientation Night for anyone interested in volunteering within the PCC ministry.  This training will begin tomorrow evening, Monday, October 19, from 6:00-9:00 PM when staff will present the history and vision of the PCC, an overview of each area of ministry to become involved with, and a section on post-modern thinking and how the culture affects who the PCC ministers to.  A light snack will be provided.  Training will then continue November 2-6 from 8:30 AM-Noon at Memorial Baptist Church, 2320 7th Street in Columbus.  For more information, please contact Jane Littmann at 1-866-510-5067 or JaneL@affirminglifeonline.org.

CHURCH HISTORY:  In January of 1932, the interior of the church was re-decorated.  It was colorful, with strips 4-5 feet wide that were panels of different shades of blues and roses. There were designs that started at the top of the windows.  At the center of the ceiling, floral and leaf designs criss-crossed.  There was also a border that was chair rail height.  There werefour bowl lights suspended from the ceiling.  Those lights have since been replaced.

THE FALL LUNCHEON AND BAKE SALE to support the counseling ministry of CrossLife Ministries will be held this Friday, October 16, from 10:00 AM-1:00 PM.  The Auxiliary of CrossLife Ministries will serve chicken casserole, salads, desserts, and drinks at Immanuel Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall.  Free-will donations will be accepted, and persons may dine in or carry out. “Helping Hands” donation boxes located on the tables will help support Anchor House.

October 4 Weekly News

CHURCH HISTORY:  In October of 1930, the Young People's Society was organized.  This is now known as our Youth Groups.

 

MANY THANKS TO our 175th Anniversary committee - Mary Anne Schneider, Janeen Blomenberg, Ken & Kyra Bode, Phil Burbrink, Greg Hercamp, Beth Burbrink, and Elly Rutan - for the many hours  dedicated to planning all our special celebrations this year.  Your efforts have been truly appreciated!

September 27 Weekly News


WELCOME TO ALL as we come together today to celebrate and give thanks to God for His many blessings and continued faithfulness to us here at White Creek on this, our 175th Anniversary!  A special      welcome and thanks to Pastor Loren Boettcher for delivering today's message and the Men's Chorus for providing special music.

 

TODAY'S EVENTS:  We will have the table prayer for the meal before we are dismissed after today's   worship.  There will be a balloon release immediately after the service, followed by the meal.  If you would like to sit with family/friends for the meal, please get with them before you get in the food line, as seating will be filled from the back to the front of the gym.  A video of the 1990 pageant will be shown throughout the afternoon.

 

MANY THANKS TO all who helped with last weekend’s Smorgasbord/Bazaar and to St. John’s Foundation for sponsoring today’s meal.

 

THIS WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, will be Pastor Cook's last worship service with us as he and his family move to Michigan next weekend.  We pray for God's blessings to Pastor and his family as they   begin this new ministry.

CONTACT Katie Otte (812-341-5333) or Lakeview Ministries (812-342-4815) to purchase tickets for Camp Lakeview's 11th Annual Dinner Auction, "ROUTE 66," which will be held Saturday, November 21, at the Clarion Hotel Crystal Ballroom in Columbus.  Tickets are $60/person or $500/table if purchased before this Thursday, October 1.  All proceeds benefit God's work being done at Lakeview Ministries.

 

THE PREGNANCY CARE CENTER will be offering a Ministry Orientation Night for anyone interested in volunteering within the PCC ministry.  This training will begin on Monday, October 19, from 6:00-9:00 PM when staff will present the history and vision of the PCC, an overview of each area of ministry to become involved with, and a section on post-modern thinking and how the culture affects who the PCC ministers to.  A light snack will be provided.  Training will then continue November 2-6 from 8:30 AM-Noon at Memorial Baptist Church, 2320 7th Street in   Columbus.  For more information, please contact Jane Littmann at       1-866-510-5067 or JaneL@affirminglifeonline.org.
