OPEN HOUSE:  Our annual White Creek Lutheran School Open House will be held this coming Friday, February 5, from 8:30 AM – 2:30 PM.  Interested persons are invited to visit classes during the course of the day.  Teachers will be available to answer questions in between instruction times.  For more information, contact Mrs. Buss at 812-342-6832.  Enrollment will open to the general public that day.  (In case of inclement weather, the Open House will be held on Monday, February 8, 8:30 AM – 2:30 PM.)

Members of St. John’s are also welcome to visit and experience a day at White Creek Lutheran even if they currently have no children in school.  Come and see what a blessed ministry God is providing here at St. John’s!

 

YOUTH MEMBERS are reminded they will meet next Sunday evening at 7:00 PM.

THE NEXT SCHOOL FUNDING MEETING will be held on Monday, February 8, at 6:30 PM.  This meeting is for the large group so they can hear the report of the sub-committee members who have been meeting the last couple of months.

 

THE SEASON OF LENT will begin with Ash Wednesday on February 10.  Worship with Holy Communion will be held that evening at 7:00 PM.  There will be no supper served before worship that evening.

 

2015 CONTRIBUTION RECEIPTS are available in the church office for those who have not yet picked theirs up.

 

MANY THANKS from Richard & Bettie Noblitt for the prayers, cards, and visits as they both struggle with various health issues.  Richard & Bettie have moved to Covered Bridge Healthcare Facility in Seymour, and they ask for your continued prayers as they adjust to this move.  The address of Covered Bridge is 1675 West Tipton Street, Seymour  47274.  Richard – room 208;  Bettie – room 401.

 

PRESCHOOL REGISTRATION:  St. Paul, Clifty, Preschool is now registering students for the 2016-2017 school year.  Classes for 3 year olds (Little Lambs) and 4 year olds (Little Doves) are being offered. A SOUP SUPPER/EUCHRE PARTY will be held at St. Peter, Waymansville, THIS EVENING.  The supper will begin at 5:00 PM ($5/person), with the Euchre party beginning at 6:30 PM ($5/person).  This event is being sponsored by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, with all proceeds going to support the Orphan Grain Train.  Everyone invited.

January 24 Weekly News


NATIONAL LUTHERAN SCHOOLS WEEK is being observed this week.  We give thanks and praise to God for our White Creek Lutheran School and ask for His continued blessings on our Christian education ministry here at St. John’s.

 

THE ANNUAL VOTERS’ MEETING will be held TODAY at 1:30 PM in church. Copies of the meeting agenda are available in the narthex for those who did not yet receive one. All confirmed members of our congregation, 18 years and older are encouraged to attend.

 

BABYSITTING will be provided by some of our youth members during today’s Voters’ Meeting.  Children may be brought to the gym.

 

CHURCH NURSERY:  Due to very limited usage, our church nursery will no longer be staffed; however, parents are encouraged to be considerate of their fellow worshipers and use the kindergarten room in school if their child becomes restless and needs a break from the worship service.  Ushers are always available for any assistance needed.

January 17 Weekly News


TODAY WE OBSERVE Sanctity of Human Life Sunday, which is an annual day to celebrate the immeasurable value of human life, a true blessing from God.  Please note today’s bulletin insert from the Pregnancy Care Center.

 

THE ANNUAL VOTERS’ MEETING has been postponed to next Sunday, January 24, at 1:30 PM in church, due to last Sunday’s inclement weather. Copies of the meeting agenda are available in the narthex for those who have not yet received one. All confirmed members of our congregation, 18 years and older are encouraged to attend.

MOPS GROUP STARTING:  Zion Lutheran Church, Seymour, is starting a Mothers of PreSchoolers group, known as MOPS.  Anyone who is interested in having a morning of mommy time while learning great tips about parenting and marriage, this is for you.  The added bonus is that you don’t have to find a sitter – a well-trained staff will be available to entertain and educate your child.  MOPS will be meeting on the first Friday of each month from 9:00-11:00 AM beginning February 5.  Registration is requested for planning purposes.  Please email ZionMOPSSeymour@gmail.com to register and reserve your spot.  For more information, contact Michelle Downey (920-248-2640) or Riley Friend (812-216-6772).

CROSSLIFE MINISTRIES will present Blessed Are the Peacemakers seminar at St. Peter Lutheran Church,  Waymansville, next Saturday, January 16, from 8:30 AM-3:30 PM.  Participants will learn in this day of Bible study how God can change their attitudes towards conflict and their relationships to others.  Lunch will be provided. WCLS DISCOVERY DAY:   Our school will host Discovery Day on Monday, January 18, during our regular school day for students in grades K-8.  Students will have opportunities to engage in creative activities led by teachers and local professionals in various programs of painting, cooking, exercising, construction, sewing, chemistry, and much, much more!  If you know of any students who will be out of school that day due to the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, please encourage them to visit us and enjoy the White Creek Lutheran School experience!  Contact Mrs. Vandercar (812-371-3983) or the school office (812-342-6832) to register any visiting students.

MANY THANKS from the faculty/staff of our church and school for the Christmas gifts received from the congregation.  Your thoughtfulness is truly appreciated!

 

CHURCH HISTORY:  On September 4, 1955, our new school and parish hall was dedicated.  The service was led by Pastor Oscar W. Linnemeier.  Pastor Louis W. Schulenburg was the dedication preacher.  T.J. Koch was guest organist.  The school choir and the mixed choir sang.  There was an afternoon program that featured District Superintendent William J. Gernand, BCSC Superintendent Joseph Foust, and Phillip Guy, Assistant Superintendent of Public Instruction.  The women of the congregation served a luncheon while the young people maintained a refreshment stand.  The Bedford stone building had two classrooms, a library/confirmation instruction room, and restrooms on the main floor.  An auditorium, kitchen, and heating facilities were on the lower level.  The Ladies Aid furnished the kitchen equipment and the tables and chairs.  The cost of the building and the equipment was approximately $44,000.00.  The school enrollment was 54 students.  Don Voelker was the teacher, and Pastor Linnemeier assisted with instruction in the lower grades.  (This is our last church history article – many thanks to Janeen Blomenberg for all her research to provide these weekly news items in observance of our 175th anniversary.)

 

FINANCIAL UPDATE:  The amount of $46,196.94 is needed yet to meet our budget for 2015.

 

DISHES from the Schroer funeral lunch (and some from the Smorgasbord) are on the table by the Fellowship Room in the downstairs school hall.  Please pick up today.

December 20 Weekly News

THIS WEEK’S CHRISTMAS SERVICES:  (NO Wednesday evening worship 12/23), Thursday, Christmas Eve, 12/24 – 4:30 PM worship (Pastor Keinath), 6:00 PM – Pre-service music, 6:30 PM – Children’s Christmas Eve Service (Lou Voelker, assisting); Friday, Christmas Day – 8:45 AM worship (Mark Buss leading a Christmas worship in scripture and song).

 

CHILDREN’S PRACTICE:  Sunday School children in grades 1-8 who are participating in the Christmas Eve Children’s Program will have a practice this Wednesday, December 23, from 5:30-7:00 PM.  Pizza and drinks will be served after practice, so please RSVP to Lori Hill (812-350-1474) so she can plan for enough food.

 

2016 OFFERING ENVELOPES are available in the narthex.  Please pick up yours and any family members today.

 

CHRISTMAS CARD DELIVERY:  The Youth will be delivering Christmas cards locally (25cents/card) tomorrow (Monday).

CHURCH HISTORY:  The present teacherage was built for the cost of $8,176.29.  The bid was awarded to Zumhingst.  As of January 1, 1949, $4,342.56 was raised; by April 3, $6,908.06; and by July 3, $7007.81 was raised.  Members who failed to pay or pledge were to be contacted by board members or members of the finance committee by December 31, 1949.  A few members of the congregation agreed to loan the congregation the necessary money, interest free, until January 1, 1950, so the house could be paid for in cash.

 

WE REJOICE WITH Micah & Monica Buss as they were able to have their daughter, ELINA YEN VI BUSS, baptized by an LCMS visiting pastor in Hanoi, Vietnam, on Sunday, December 6.  Elina’s sponsors were her aunt, Jael Sylva, and uncle,          Linh Nguyen.  God’s blessings to you, Elina!

 

CONGRATULATIONS TO Pastor Matt & Ingrid Jung on the birth of their daughter, NATALIE JANE JUNG, on Thursday, December 10.  Natalie arrived weighing 6 lbs. 14 ozs. and measuring 19½ ins.  Everyone is doing fine – God’s blessings to them!
