BIBLE STUDY:  Jean Jack’s Bible Study, “Four Parables of Jesus,” will begin on Wednesday, September 13, at 5:00 PM and continue every Wednesday for eight sessions.  This course will help you understand the meaning of these parables for the people who first heard them and how they still apply to us today.  Contact Mrs. Jack (714-768-5731) or Becky in the office if you would like to attend.

MEET MARTIN LUTHER NIGHT:  The Senior League will be meeting on Sunday, September 17, at 5:30 p.m. and would like to extend an invitation to the congregation to join them for a light meal followed by a video recording of Rev. Paul Schwartzkopf, a former member of St. Peter’s, Columbus, giving a presentation of impersonating Martin Luther in first person dialog, dressed as a 15^th century monk, covering Luther’s personal views of the events of his life.  Following this viewing, the rest of the evening will be spent playing euchre.  Please RSVP to Glen & Wanda Meyer (812-522-8688) or to Becky in the church office (812-342-3516) by Friday, September 15, so adequate preparations can be made.

THE ALUMINUM CAN DRIVE continues yet today.  The trailer is parked on the south side of church to receive items.  This project is sponsored by our school’s parent organization, the WCA.

MUM SALE:  Our school is currently sponsoring its fall mum sale.  Please see any WCLS student by this Wednesday, September 6, if you would like to place an order.  Eight-inch and fourteen-inch mums in a variety of colors are included in this sale.  All proceeds go to our Children’s Fund to help with field trip expenses.

MOPS:  Mothers Of Preschoolers of Seymour invites all mothers with young children to it’s kick-off event this Friday, September 1, from 8:45-10:45 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church (1501 Gaiser Dr., Seymour).  Bring your little ones for silly songs and story time, then settle in with a cup of coffee for some peaceful conversation while childcare workers entertain the children.  Email mops@zionseymour.org to register.

STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK:                      Matthew 16:27              

“For the Son of Man is going to come with His angels in the glory of His Father, and then He will repay each person according to what he has done.”  St. Paul talks about rewards on the Last Day in 1 Cor. 3, and Jesus says more about this “repaying” in Matt. 19:27-30.  Bottom line:  your good works can’t buy you heaven, but in Christ your good works do matter; they’re pleasing your Heavenly Father, and they will be rewarded.  In other words: your sacrifices for the Lord’s Kingdom are not in vain, they are not unnoticed by your Father.  This should encourage you in your faithfulness.

MEET THE STAFF – MRS. JESSICA SONS

This year’s new addition to our teaching staff is Mrs. Jessica Sons.  She replaces Mr. Noelker as sixth grade homeroom teacher, leading departmentalized classes for grades five through eight in the areas of social studies and science.  Mrs. Sons, an Indiana-licensed teacher for grades 5-12, is a graduate of Indiana University Southeast, formerly taught at Trinity Lutheran High School, assisted at Immanuel, and has done substitute teaching in Jackson and Jennings Counties.  She has served as a Jackson County 4-H leader since 1997, has been a Girl Scout leader, and currently teaches Sunday school at St. John’s Sauers, where she and her family hold membership.  Mrs. Sons has two children, a daughter Kiley, who is in seventh grade at Sauers, and a son Colin, who is a junior at Seymour High School.  Husband Jeremy is a mechanical and robotics engineer at Faurecia.  We welcome Mrs. Sons to our White Creek family and give thanks to God for providing our school with a gifted and dedicated teacher.

“Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.”  These are the words of faith, for faith means receiving what God gives.  And God has given us so much more than just the crumbs that fall from the table – He has given us life, salvation, body and soul, eyes and ears, possessions and income.  That’s where our stewardship starts: with faith in the God Who is the greatest Giver.

“THESES” ARE STILL AVAILABLE.  One aspect of our October 29^th celebration of the 500^th Anniversary of The Reformation will be to assemble backpacks for an Orphan Grain Train special project: School Kits.  In order to have the supplies needed for the school kits, you are asked to consider donating school supplies (on sale now) and/or the cost of mailing them.  In keeping with our Reformation theme, 95 “theses” were posted on the wooden door in the narthex.  Each “theses” has school supplies listed on the back.  If you take a “theses” please return the school supplies on your “theses” by October 1.  A box is available in the narthex for these supplies.

STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK:                      Matthew 14:30              

“But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, ‘Lord, save me.’”  The world, really, is a scary place – natural disasters, disease, terrorism, and a hundred other things.  But where do we place our hope, our trust – our vision?  Where do we look for aid and comfort?  When Peter’s eyes were on the Lord, he had confidence.  When he turned to look at his problems and took his eyes off the Lord, he fell apart.  Sometimes God’s call to support the work of His Church with our offerings makes us nervous.  But put your eyes back on your Lord, trust Him, follow His Word, and all, really, will be well.

TEACHER INSTALLATION:  We pray God’s blessings to our faculty as this school year has begun:  K-Michelle Barnett, Grade 1-Mary Anne Schneider, Grade 2-Jean Jack, Grade 3-Kim Enzinger, Grade 4-Lindsay Paluch, Grade 5-Whitney Vandercar, Grade 6-Jessica Sons, Grades 7 & 8-Micah McCormick, Principal-Jan Buss, Confirmation Class-Pastor Whitmore, and Teacher Aides-Kyra Bode and Tracey Engelau.

WORK DAY to clean up the church/school grounds will be held this next Saturday, August 12, at 8:00 a.m.  Bring your rakes, trimmers, shovels, and lots of energy to spruce up around the church and school.  Rain date will be August 19.

EVERYONE IS INVITED TO the concert, Pray About Everything, featuring Guy Penrod at the First Baptist Church in Seymour this evening at 6:30 p.m.  Doors open at 5:30 p.m.  Tickets are $20/person and are available online at itickets.com or by calling the First Baptist Church office at 812-522-1909.  Guy was the lead singer for the Gaither Vocal Band for many years. 

EVERYONE IS INVITED to the 140^th Anniversary of St. Paul’s, Jonesville, which will be celebrated next Sunday, August 13, at 10:15 a.m.  Indiana District President Dan May will be the guest preacher.  The congregation invites our neighboring brothers and sisters to join us on this day of celebration.  Following the worship service, dinner of pulled pork, fried chicken with side dishes, salads and desserts will be offered, many from historic German recipes of congregational members.  Games such as croquet, horseshoes, sack races, bean bag toss and watermelon seed spitting contest will be held.  Card games will also be indoors.  Horse and carriage rides will be offered beginning at noon.

“They said to him, ‘We have only five loaves here and two fish.’  And he said, ‘Bring them here to me.’”  When the disciples held on to the five loaves and two fish – that’s exactly what they had.  But when they handed them over to the Lord, the multitudes are fed.  Apart from Jesus all we do and all we have is nothing – but in Jesus all we do and have is blessed to be used by the Lord for His gracious work.

EVERYONE IS INVITED TO the concert, Pray About Everything, featuring Guy Penrod at the First Baptist Church in Seymour next Sunday, August 6, at 6:30 p.m.  Doors open at 5:30 p.m.  Tickets are $20/person and are available online at itickets.com or by calling the First Baptist Church office at 812-522-1909.  Guy was the lead singer for the Gaither Vocal Band for many years. 

MARK YOUR CALENDAR:  Work day to clean up the church/school grounds will be held Saturday, August 12. At 8:00 a.m.  Bring your rakes, trimmers, shovels, and lots of energy to spruce up around the church and school.  Rain date will be August 19.

NEWS FROM THE KYLERS:  “Greetings in Christ Jesus our Lord!  I pray all is well.  I assume that by now everyone is gearing up for school to begin.  We moved into our new home in Bismarck, ND this past weekend, and I wanted to pass along our new address:  4111 Lockport St. #216, Bismarck, ND  58503.  I will be learning and serving Bethel Lutheran Church and Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, both in Bismarck.  Both of these churches are on the internet, record services, and are on Facebook if anyone would like to check them out.  Abigail and Jacob will attend Martin Luther Lutheran School in Bismarck.  This is a small school that reminds me a lot of White Creek Lutheran.  God’s blessings through our Savior, Jesus Christ!” – Jeff, Donna, Abigail, Jacob and James Kyler.

 MEMORIAL BRICKS for our sidewalk or Memory Garden may be ordered now through Labor Day.  Bricks are $100.  Contact Ernie & Donna Dettmer or Larry & Janice Claycamp if interested in placing an order.  If you would like a special clip-art included on your brick, see Becky in the office for a sheet of what is available.  Any brick orders received after Labor Day will be held until next year’s order is placed. 

CPH 2017 BIBLE SALE:  Concordia Publishing Company is offering up to 33% off on its new and most popular Bibles and companion books.  Check the bulletin board in the front school hall to see items and prices for this savings offer.  Orders may be given to Becky in the church office.  This sale ends September 30.

EVERYONE IS INVITED to the 140^th Anniversary of St. Paul’s, Jonesville, which will be celebrated on Sunday, August 13, at 10:15 a.m.  Indiana District President Dan May will be the guest preacher.  The congregation invites our neighboring brothers and sisters to join us on this day of celebration.  Following the worship service, dinner of pulled pork, fried chicken with side dishes, salads and desserts will be offered, many from historic German recipes of congregational members.  Games such as croquet, horseshoes, sack races, bean bag toss and watermelon seed spitting contest will be held.  Card games will also be indoors.  Horse and carriage rides will be offered beginning at noon.

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.”  Indeed, Jesus redeemed us, purchased us back from sin and death, with all that He had.  We belong to Him now.  And this is the foundation for our own generosity:  imitating the outsized generosity of Jesus.

AUGUST CALENDAR AND NEWS ITEMS need to be given to Becky by TOMORROW.

LADIES AID MEMBERS are reminded of their Bible study and meeting this Wednesday, July 26, at 9:00 a.m.  Guests are always welcome!

WCLS REGISTRATION: School registration for students in grades 3-8 will be held this Friday, July 28, from 9:00-11:00 a.m. and 5:30-7:00 p.m.  Families are reminded that Mrs. Sons will not be present during the morning time due to a prior commitment, so if you would like to meet her, please plan on attending during the evening time.  Students in grades K-2 and all new students are being visited by their teachers.

SEVERAL AREA CHURCHES have recently suffered acts of vandalism.  If you are out and about, please keep an eye out for anything unusual around our church and school property.

STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK:   Romans 8:18

“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.”  It is very easy to get caught up in the present and lose track of our ultimate destiny in the Kingdom of God.  St. Paul encourages us to keep eternity in mind.  This certainly has an application to our support for the Gospel – if we keep our focus on “the glory to be revealed” we will see our tithes and offerings in a new light.
