December 6 Weekly News


WE REJOICE WITH Brian & Linda Jo Hauersperger as they bring their son, LUKE TYLER, to be baptized this morning.  Luke’s sponsors are his aunt and uncle, Tara & Thorn Murphy.  God’s blessings to you, Luke!  Today’s altar flowers have been given by Brian & Linda Jo in honor of this blessed occasion.

MIDWEEK ADVENT SERVICES continue this Wednesday at 7:00 PM.  Pastor Jung will be preaching on “The Mother of Mercy.”  The Guild will be serving a turkey/chicken tetrazzini supper before the service, beginning at 5:45 PM.

 

THE DECEMBER VOTERS’ MEETING will be held this evening at 7:00 PM.  Approving the 2016 nominations for church offices and receiving an update on the church’s finances will be among the business discussed.  All confirmed members, 18 years and older, are encouraged to attend.

 

YOUTH GROUPS will meet this evening at 7:00 PM.

 

CHRISTMAS CAROLING: Share your Christmas joy by joining in the Christmas caroling next Sunday, December 13.  Meet in the Fellowship Room at 3:00 PM.  After caroling, singers will return to the Fellowship Room for soup and cookies.   All ages are welcome to come!

CHRISTMAS CARD DELIVERY:  The Youth will be delivering Christmas cards locally (25 cents/card) on Sunday, December 20.  A drop-off box is in the narthex.

 

CHRISTMAS EVE PRE-SERVICE MUSIC:  If you would like to participate in the pre-service music Christmas Eve (6:00-6:30 PM), please contact Lori Hill (812-350-1474) as soon as possible.

 

CHRISTMAS POINSETTIAS:  Persons who would like to place poinsettias on the Altar for the Christmas season are asked to contact Karen Schlehuser (812-342-6140).  Flowers may be purchased individually or ordered through Karen.

 

CHRISTMAS EVE TREATS:  Donations for the children's Christmas Eve candy treats may be given to Joan Otte or the ushers or elder on duty.

 

TRINITY DUES:  If you have not yet paid your Trinity dues ($16/confirmed member), please do so as soon as possible.  A special envelope is provided in your offering box.

 

PERSONS INTERESTED IN submitting a bid for the church custodian job may do so to Doyce Eckelman by Sunday, December 20.  A job description is available – see Becky in the church office.

 

ITEMS AVAILABLE:  The shed at the parsonage has a few items available for the taking:  our old manger scene, a few old school desks and chairs, and various other items.  If interested, please get by Sunday, December 20.  After that date, what is left will be disposed of to make room in that shed for our current manger scene.

 

175TH ANNIVERSARY ORNAMENTS are still available for purchase - $12.  Cookbooks are also available - $5.  See Becky in the church office if you would like to make a purchase.

 

CHURCH HISTORY: In January of 1942, the Ladies Aid appointed a committee to study the possibility of getting new windows for our church.  The Ladies Aid was given approval from the Voters’ Assembly for the project in April of 1942, and in July, 1942, the windows were completed.  The Ladies Aid spent the majority of their funds, $225.25, on this project.  Total cost of the windows was $750.25.

 


BETHLEHEM WALK:  Prince of Peace, Martinsville, will host its 3rd Annual Bethlehem Walk this Friday, December 11, from 7:00-10:00 PM - The evening will begin in the church sanctuary with a short introduction, and then guests will proceed outside to walk through the gates of Bethlehem to confront Roman guards and tax collectors, hear the words of the prophets and Wise men, shop at the merchants’ tents, encounter a variety of animals, and visit the inn and the stable.  Cookies and hot chocolate will be served in the Fellowship Hall following the Walk. Tickets are free and will be issued in 20 minute intervals - call the church (765-342-2004) for reservations.

 
2016 LUTHERAN ANNUAL:  If anyone would like to order a copy of The Lutheran Annual, which lists thousands of ordained and commissioned ministers, social ministry organizations, schools, churches, statistics, and more and enables you to reach out across the Missouri Synod by email, mail, phone, fax or online, please contact Becky in the church office.  Cost is $27.99.
 
A SCRIP ORDER for gift cards will be sent in this Tuesday, December 8.  If interested in ordering, forms are available in the narthex.  Our school receives a percentage of profits from each card purchased.  Please include payment with your order and return it to Becky by this Tuesday.
 
FINANCIAL UPDATE:  The amount of $86,474.94 is needed by the end of the year to meet our budget for 2015.

OGILVILLE CHRISTIAN CHURCH will be offering a free hot meal on the 2nd Saturday of every month at the church at 7891 West, 450 South, Columbus.  The doors will open at 11:00 AM, and the meal will be served from 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM.  Persons are welcome to come for a hot meal and take home a bag of food.  Please pass this information on to anyone you know who might be in need.  Questions???  Call the Ogilville church office at 812-342-6907.

November 29 Weekly News


TO HELP OUR SUNDAY SCHEDULE, Sunday School and Bible Class will begin at 10:00 AM on   non-communion Sundays (2nd, 4th and 5th Sundays) and 10:15 AM on communion Sundays (1st and 3rd Sundays).  Please pass this information on to any families, friends, and neighbors.

MIDWEEK ADVENT SERVICES will begin this Wednesday evening, December 2, and continue on December 9, and 16, at 7:00 PM.  Pastor Jung will be leading these worships on “Angels: Messengers of Mercy.”  This week’s theme, “The Messenger’s Message,” is from Luke 1:8-20. Supper will be served by the Junior High Youth before the service, beginning at 5:45 PM.

CHURCH HISTORY:  In December of 1938, a new system of collecting monies was adopted.  The congregation was divided into six districts.  A board member and finance member were assigned to each district. The board member was to take care of the monies for home purposes and the finance member was to take care of monies for Synodical purposes.  At the end of each quarter, officers were to see members who were in arrears or hadn’t paid anything for church or missions.  The purpose was to encourage such members, but not to provoke them.

November 22 Weekly News


PRACTICE FOR THE Children’s Christmas Eve program continues during the Sunday School opening time.  Please make every effort to attend these practices.

THE ADULT BIBLE CLASS has begun the Bible study, God’s Trustees, which covers managing all of life and life’s resources for God’s purposes.  This class meets in the Fellowship Room and  has both large and small group discussions.  New members are welcome to join at any time!

THE CHURCH COUNCIL will meet this evening at 7:00 PM.  All council members are urged to attend.

OUR THANKSGIVING EVE WORSHIP with Holy Communion will be held this Wednesday evening, November 25, at 7:00 PM. Pastor Jung will be leading our worship.  Non-perishable food items will be received to be delivered to the local food pantry.

CHURCH HISTORY:  In 1936, the volunteers to pump air for the organ were:  Omer Dettmer, Walter Horman, Elmer Eckelman, and Clarence Beckemeyer.  In 1939, it was passed to get 12 volunteer organ pumpers:  George Meyer, Martin Meyer, Ralph Peters, Earl Bode, Henry Dettmer, Martin Hoffman, Willard Hoffman, Walter Schlehuser, Edwin Dettmer, Martin Burbrink, Franklin Luenebrink, and Jacob Noblitt.
CONGRATULATIONS TO Brian & Linda Jo Hauersperger on the birth of their son, LUKE TYLER HAUERSPERGER, this past Wednesday. Luke arrived weighing 8 lbs. 8 ozs. and measuring 20.5 ins.  Everyone is doing fine.  God’s blessings to them all!

TRINITY CRAFT FAIR:  The 13th Annual Trinity Lutheran Winter Wonderland Craft Fair will be held next Saturday, November 28, from 9:00 AM-2:00 PM at Trinity.  There will be over 65 booths (21 new vendors!) this year, concessions, and a bake sale.  Come and get some unique gifts!
A LARGE QUANTITY of crochet thread and yarn has been donated to the Ladies Aid.  If you have need and could use some, please contact Jean Voelker (812-522-8168).
THE CHURCH OFFICE HOURS will be flexible this week, due to the Thanksgiving break.  If you need to come in to the office, please call ahead to make sure someone is there.

November 15 Weekly News

SENIOR LEAGUE MEMBERS are reminded to meet this evening at Bob Evans Restaurant at 5:30 PM for supper and then return to the Fellowship Rom for their monthly meeting and socializing.  Guests welcome!

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD:  All gifts and/or monetary donations for the Operation Christmas Child boxes need to be brought to the school by this Tuesday, November 17.

 

LADIES AID MEMBERS will gather for their holiday outing this Wednesday, November 18, at 11:30 AM at The Chocolate Spoon in Seymour.  Please RSVP to Susan Cummings (812-988-2917) or Wanda Meyer (812-522-8688).  Members should bring their Red Stocking donation.

CHURCH HISTORY:  In September of 1938, cement walks were built on church premises.  One was on the north side of church.  Albert Schroer was chosen by the congregation to supervise this project.
