OPEN HOUSE:  Trinity Lutheran High School will be holding its final open house TODAY from 2:00-4:00 PM.  All eighth grade students attending will be entered in a drawing to win a Trinity t-shirt.  Interested eighth grade students will also receive a $75 voucher that covers half of the registration costs at Trinity for the 2014-2015 school year.  Please enter through the commons.

CONGRATULATIONS TO Matthew & April May on the birth of their son, TUCKER MICHAEL MAY, on Friday, January 31.  Tucker arrived weighing 7 lbs. 15 ozs. and measuring 20 ins.  Everyone is doing fine.  God's blessings to them!

 

DEPOSITS OF $313.00 and $144.00 have been made to the Church and Foundation accounts on behalf of the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans' Thrivent Choice Program.  Those persons directing their choice dollars include Dale & Bettie Burbrink, Robert Burbrink, Greg Hercamp, Jane Hoffman, Dennis & Joyce Meyer, Lloyd & Jean Meyer, Marguerite Meyer, Brian & Annette Purdue, and Aaron Voelker.  The school received $2,397.00 in designated choice dollars.  A listing of those directing their choice dollars to the school is posted on the bulletin board in the front school hall.

 

ASSET AUCTION:  Trinity Lutheran High School will hold an Asset Auction for the general public on Saturday, March 29, at the Betty Shepman farm on Hwy 50 in Seymour across from Applebee's.  The auction will begin at 9:00 AM with auctioneer Fred Pollert, of Pollert's, Inc., and food will be served throughout the day.  The Asset Auction effort is called "Renew Their Strength" with all proceeds raised at the auction being applied towards the debt on the original school loan for Trinity.  Some ideas on assets that you could donate include, a car, truck, tractor, motorcycle, camper, RV, jewelry, tools, antiques, collectibles, coins, guns, art, business equipment, livestock for slaughter, seed on deposit, farming equipment, furniture, lawn or garden equipment, clean property, stocks and bonds, paid up life insurance policies, etc.  All motorized vehicles and property need to have a clean and transferrable title.  Stocks and bonds that may be donated to Trinity will be sold immediately by Trinity.  A tax receipt for your gift will be mailed to you after the auction is complete.  Drop-off date for items at the Betty Shepman farm will be Saturday, March 1, and Saturday, March 8, from 9:00 AM-4:00 PM.  If you would like to support the students of Trinity through this effort, please contact our Asset Auctions volunteer, Keith Mensendiek  (342-4981), Asset Auction co-chairs, John & Pam Fox (342-1323), or Trinity's Development Director, Michael Bridges (812-343-3352).

 

CHILI SUPPER:  The Columbus FFA Chapter will be having its annual Frank Burbrink Memorial Chili Supper on Friday, March 7, from 5:00-8:00 PM in the Family Arts Building at the Bartholomew County Fairgrounds.  Included will be a silent auction with various prizes donated by generous businesses and benefactors around the community.  A free-will donation will be accepted for the chili supper.  All proceeds will go to a fund for scholarships for the senior members of the Columbus FFA Chapter.  Everyone is invited.

OPEN HOUSE:  Our school will be holding its annual Open House this Friday, February 7, from 8:30 AM-2:30 PM.  Interested persons are invited to come in and visit our classrooms.  Teachers will be available between instruction times to answer any questions.  Enrollment for the 2014-2015 school year will open to the public that day.  (Snow date will be Monday, Feb.10, same times.)

BUILDING PROJECT UPDATE:  Members of the building committee visited the Wurster Construction facility and a number of their construction sites in November.  Members were impressed by what they observed.  Building plans were completed as of January 3rd.  The committee is currently awaiting final sub-contractor bids with effort being made to employ local companies.  Wurster has guaranteed staying within their initial bid for the original project.  Any additions/changes would be negotiated.  Construction is presently on track to begin the third week of March with completion the end of June.  Background checks (for the safety of the children) will be completed on all workers before being allowed on site.  Plans will be presented to the Bartholomew Co. Planning Commission February 24th.

January 26 Weekly News

FEBRUARY CALENDAR AND NEWS will be available from the ushers after today's worship.

 

THIS WEEK we will celebrate National Lutheran Schools Week.  Our students will enjoy special treats and dress-up days and will attend chapel services and participate in special activities at Immanuel (Kindergarten-3rd grade) and Trinity (4th-8th grades) on Friday.  Students have drawn pictures which are included in today's bulletin to express their gratitude in being able to attend our Lutheran school and to thank the congregation for giving them this opportunity.

 

A TOTAL OF $36.52 was collected from last Sunday's Penny Collection for the Pregnancy Care Center.  Baby bottles are available in the narthex for those who would like to put in their spare change and donate to the PCC.  Please return these by next Sunday, February 2.

PENNY COLLECTION:  The Sanctity of Human Life Sunday is being observed today. Please note today's bulletin insert.  We are receiving offerings for the Pregnancy Care Center to give thanks and praise to God for the many years He has given to us by giving a penny (or more) for each year of our life.  A basket is in the narthex to receive these offerings.

CHORAL CONCERT:  St. Paul, Clifty, will sponsor a Choral Concert this Tuesday, January 14, at 7:00 PM featuring the Millikin University Collegiate Chorale and the Columbus North High School Concert Choir.  Everyone is cordially invited - admission is free.

 

EXERCISE CLASSES:  Due to the weather, many of last week's exercise classes could not be held.  The new 9-week session of exercise classes will begin this week and go up to spring break.  Exercising can help with those few extra holiday pounds, depression and stress.  Joining group fitness classes can be a lot of fun and the social group can help you start or stay on track with a healthy life style.  For more information, pick up a flyer in the narthex and/or call Janet Morey at 812-350-6238.
