TODAY'S ALTAR FLOWERS have been given in loving memory of  Mary Louise Schroer by her family.  Mary Louise went to her heavenly home 10 years ago this Tuesday, August 26.

LADIES AID MEMBERS are reminded of their Bible study and meeting this Wednesday, August 27, at 9:00 AM, followed by working on items for the upcoming Bazaar.

 

THRIVENT MEMBERS:  We will have a BRIEF meeting in the back rows of church next Sunday, August 31, to update everyone on how the Thrivent Choice funds have been put to use for the school and the church and to gather member input for use of these funds as we move forward.  Please plan to attend.  Thank you!

 

LADIES BIBLE STUDY- FOOD FOR BODY AND SOUL:  Jean Jack will be hosting a 9 session Bible study for ladies on Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30 PM in the Fellowship Room, beginning on September 3.  We are called to be daughters and wives, sisters and friends, mothers and grandmas, volunteers, employees, citizens, and leaders.  Golden Fruit is a study that puts these roles into perspective.  Contact Jean Jack at jjack@whitecreek.org or 714-768-5731 for more information.  A dinner salad will be served to nourish the body as we study God's Word to nourish the soul.

 

SMORGASBORD/BAZAAR:  Our Annual Smorgasbord/Bazaar is coming up on Saturday, September 20.  Sign-up sheets for help and donations will be available after worship today in the narthex.    A "Second Time Around" table will again be featured at the Bazaar for good used items (no clothes, please), so keep that in mind when cleaning out those closets and drawers!

 

CHURCH PICTURES/DIRECTORY:  We will be doing church pictures and putting out a new church directory in celebrating our 175th Anniversary in 2015.  The following is a timeline listing when this will be taking place:  Pictures will be taken on December 11, 12, and 13 and December 18, 19,  and 20.  We will be having sign-ups for appointments on October 26, November 2, 9 and 16 after church.  We are planning on having the directory completed by early spring 2015.

 

BASEBALL TICKETS: Those who ordered tickets for the September 7 game at Cincinnati may pick them up from the church office.

 

MUM SALE:  Our school is currently sponsoring its annual fall mum sale.  Eight-inch mums ($6.00) and fourteen-inch mums ($22.00) in various colors are available.  Order forms are available in the narthex or persons may order from any WCLS student (or email Becky).  Orders with payments need to be turned in to the school office by Wednesday, September 3.  Proceeds from the sale go to the Childrens' Fund to help cover special activities.

 

BRICKS:  Orders are again being taken for bricks for our sidewalk and memory garden from now through Labor Day (next week).  Cost is $100/brick.  To order, contact Ernie & Donna Dettmer or Larry & Janice Claycamp.  Bricks will be placed in October.   If you would like to see design options that are available for the bricks, contact Becky in the church office.

THE LWML COLUMBUS ZONE RALLY will be held on Saturday, September 13, at St. Paul, Clifty.  The mission presentation will highlight the Chinese ministry in Bloomington and Columbus. All ladies are invited.  Please mark your calendars!

 

2014 WALK FOR LIFE:  The Pregnancy Care Center's Annual Walk for Life, Be a Voice for the Voiceless, will be held on Saturday, September 20, at the East Columbus Christian Church, 3170 Indiana Ave.  Please note the insert included with today's bulletin.  Persons who would like to sign up to walk or donate may contact Jean Voelker (522-8168) or get a registration form from the church office.

175TH ANNIVERSARY:  The anniversary committee is working on putting together a 2015 calendar that would include historical information as well as photographs over the years.  If you have old pictures we could borrow to look at, please put them in an envelope with your name on it and give it to Becky in the office or Mary Anne Schneider.  The pictures may also be used in our new church directory that we will be doing in December.  Pictures will be returned to you.

EVERYONE IS INVITED to come and support the TLHS volleyball team before their game this Friday, August 22, from 5:30-7:30 PM in the school's cafeteria.  Purchase a ticket from any volleyball member and receive a BBQ sandwich, chips, drink, and a dessert for only five dollars!

 

REDEEMER LUTHERAN CHURCH, Seymour, will be sponsoring its 4th annual Open Car Show next Saturday, August 23, in the Redeemer parking lot.  Registration ($15.00 donation) is from 10:00 AM-Noon.  Awards will be given at 3:00 PM.  Proceeds benefit Redeemer parochial students.

 

GOLF OUTING:  Trinity Lutheran Church, Vallonia, is sponsoring a golf outing next Saturday, August 23, at the Hickory Hills golf course.  Sign-in begins at 11:00 AM for $50/person.  All proceeds will go to the church's building fund.  For more information, contact Matt Helwig at 812-525-9313.

August 10 Weekly News

EVERYONE IS INVITED to stay after church today for our annual picnic.  We will gather on the north side of school.  Many thanks to those who helped/donated to this event!

 

THE ORGAN DEDICATION AND RECITAL will be held after the picnic at 1:00 PM.  A hymn sing will be held with accompaniment by John Matthews, Director of Music at Grace Lutheran, followed by special musical selections played by Ed Bruenjes, Music Director at Asbury United Methodist Church and restorer of our organ.  Everyone invited.

OUR WCLS FACULTY/STAFF will be dedicated during this morning's worship. Those serving include Michelle Barnett-Kindergarten, Mary Anne Schneider-1st grade, Jean Jack-2nd grade, Kim Enzinger-3rd grade, Lindsay Paluch-4th grade, Whitney Vandercar-5th grade, Jeffrey Kyler-6th grade, Micah Owens-7th/8th grades, Jan Buss-Principal/7th & 8th Math, Pastor Cook-Confirmation, Jane Meyer- Teacher Aide, Elizabeth Brown-Teacher Aide, and Becky Eckelman-Admin. Asst.  Please keep our students, faculty, and staff in your prayers as the new school year begins tomorrow.

July 27 Weekly News

MANY THANKS TO Pastor Lorenz for leading us in worship today while Pastor Cook is on vacation.  Should an emergency arise this week, please contact Becky in the church office, 342-3516  (or at home, 342-6808).  Pastor Stache will be leading our 7:00 PM worship this Wednesday evening.

WORKDAY to clean up the church/school grounds will be held next Saturday, August 2, at 8:00 AM.  Trimming, weeding, painting, and various other tasks need to be done.   If you are not able to come that morning, but would like to help at a convenient time for you, the following jobs need to be done:

·         Paint the church and school handrails (contact Doyce or Mrs. Buss for paint)

·         Sand and paint the basement hall door by the Fellowship Room (again, contact Doyce or Mrs. Buss for paint)

·         Power wash the outside back school wall by the fire escape

All help would be greatly appreciated!  Many hands will make the work go quickly!

AUXILIARY MEETING:  The CrossLife Ministries Auxiliary will meet tomorrow evening, at 6:30 PM at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Dudleytown.  All are invited to enjoy the evening of fellowship and become more familiar with the ministry to individuals, marriages, and families throughout Jackson and Bartholomew counties.  The guest speaker will be a representative from Community Diner.  Plans for the Fall Luncheon and Bake Sale will be discussed.  Please bring a covered dish to share.  Drinks and anniversary cake will be provided.
